Welcome to ADVrider.com’s Photos of the Week number 19 for 2021. You’re in luck, and if you haven’t been here before, you’ve picked the right time to join in, because we have a sensational cast of characters in this week’s stage play of world adventures. For our Featured Image, we have chosen a picture that just feels right all around. Here’s a KTM 1090 Adventure catching shade in front of some lovely cabins that hold down a meadow of scrub brush and a swelling backyard of green pines. After a hot day’s riding, it’s late in the afternoon, shadows are expanding and the cabins are invitingly cool. Just the place we might all look forward to settling into after a long hot slide in the dirt.

The photo is one of six submitted by@Trepatorand was shot just a couple of weeks ago.

Had the best 3 days riding through Jawbone Cnyn to Camp Nelson and into Kennedy Meadows. Just Beautiful!

That’s in California, according to our friends at Google. And the photo is our Featured Image because it just makes us want to be there, to feel a cold wet one sliding down our throat and later to see the stars that come out to sparkle the sky, and after a good night’s sleep to walk out one of those doors and take a gulp of cool, pine-scented morning air and feel the day’s ride coming at you with all cylinders firing.

And below, in no particular order, Trepator’s best 3 days.

Flat out

It’s funny, says@wildbill73, “how when you have a flat all your buddies want to let you enjoy it in your zin mode.”

But they pitched in because it was hot in the Big Bend Ranch state park even in March . . . they wanted to get rolling.

That’s a KTM 450 EWC with its rear wheel on the operating table. The photo is a few months old.

All fired up

Blue skies (not!)

Things don’t look promising overhead, but “la route nord” — Quebec 389 on the way to Labrador City — was a “bucket list ride” for@mbabca few years ago on his Yamaha Tenere. Photographed with an Olympus TG-1 are a BMW 1150 GS and a Suzuki V-Strom 1000.

Oh, Blitzen!

The KTM 390 Duke in the photo below needed gas when@SchmittenHymerand his wife planned a ride about a week ago.

The good husband that I am, Ifired up her bike and took it to the not-so-nearest gas station. 40 minutes later I stopped for this shot. Rolling hills and little traFFIc made a great backdrop for this pic. It was taken on a little known road on Manitoulin Island.

That’s a big island in Lake Huron, which is in Ontario, Canada.

Iceland intensive

After spending a week exploring Icelance with ridewithlocal.is@J4465sent some pictures of himself and the 2018 Husqvarna 701 Enduro he rode there.

In the first photo below, we have the 2019 Honda Africa Twin owned by traveling partner Paul and John’s 2016 Yamaha Super Tenere as they make their way along the Nullagine-Shay Gap road in NW Western Australia.

And below, the same two bikes with John, “about to hit the dirt for 600 km of the Gibb River Road at the top end of Western Australia, heading for the Northern Territory border.” Photos from September 2020.

An Italian tradition

A visit to Italy this year gave@StijnSpijkera good opportunity get some altitude, with a ride on his 2014 BMW R1200 GS Adv to the highest point on the road up the Col de Sommelier, at around 3,050 meters (about 10,000 feet), in the Stella Alpina rally. It’s the highest road in Europe, he says. The rally is an unofficial run that goes every other Sunday in July.

“We had great weather and also enjoyed the Col d’Assieta and a ride to Fort de l’Olive in France, a great vacation for any adventurer.”

“This year, we even saw a Yamaha R6 and an FJR1300 at the top! Talk about steel balls.”

“The rocks get pretty big near the top, and the last bit was pretty muddy and slick due to the melting snow.”

Click below for an expansive experience.

Small tip: although the oFFIcial event is on Sunday (you can buy a pin and a shirt), we actually went up on Saturday, because these days it’s getting kinda busy on the Sunday.

The cup is full

Italy isn’t the only place where the metaphorical steel balls can come in handy. Some years ago@sector赢得了她翅膀上铃木旗下的2013 DR650 by traversing the Tincup Pass in Colorado. The road is not long, but it is ambitious, topping out at 12,154 feet. Her badge makes the statement for her.

Still climbing

@raddadwas out to cover two BDR states in one trip, a “bit ambitious” but managed in nine days. In the photo below, he is in Colorado, where the BDR trail pass sits at 12,695 feet, and farther down, both literally and literally, we have wonderful Utah! on day 3 of the ride.

“The straight piece of road leading to more twisty gold was just a cool shot of the wide open spaces you find when riding.”

Those darn tourists!

A moment . . . in Utah

A friend on a Honda XR650L earned his 15 minutes in the month of March a few years ago when the photographer pulled over on the way back to Moab after encountering spring snow in the La Sal mountains.OkieBandit1had pulled over on his own bike because he thought it was a moment worth capturing. We agree.

You are most welcome, sir!

That’s a 2001 BMW R1150 GS that Andrew is riding on July 11 at Cordillo Downs station in the northeast corner of South Australia while returning from the Big Red Bash concert near Birdsville in Queensland. See the story in his own words below.

My pillion and I were very fortunate to be able to navigate a route from Victoria via SA to Qld and back during changing COVID border closures and restrictions. We travelled north on the Birdsville track and returned via Cordillo Downs and the Strezlecki track and through the Flinders Ranges. It’s a bigflat country but it is amazing how the scenery changes in some way every few kilometres. The bike was great, the only trouble being a leaking fork seal which we cleaned out with a piece of ham packet and a cracked rear splash guard. 4400 km travelled over 16 days including the 3-day event and other stopovers.

Silhouette

@The Bearand his friend Michael were riding Enfield 350s around Sri Lanka in 2016 (“they were the perfect bikes for the slow, even tempo of the country) when he spied this image of a bicycle and rider and “I was struck by the simplicity of the silhouette.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, @Neil_The_Wheel sought escape from the heat and smoke of the western United States with a “slight reprieve up high in the Nevada mountains” aboard this 2021 Honda 300 Rally.

Shot this photo just offof the NVBDR near 9,000 feet of elevation before the trail drops into the infamous town of Jarbidge.

Oh, what a feeling!

The Bear Tooth Pass in the Montana-Wyoming corridor was a bucket-list item for@beebernitza couple of weeks ago. He was joined by Inmate Von Biker and fellow rider Brent. Bikes were a KTM 790 Adventure, a KTM 1190, and a Harley-Davidson FXDS.

Loosey goosey

All’s well that ends well

Laos is one of those places where a vehicle wrecked on the side of the road stays there. Tony couldn’t resist laying his bike over under the truck so we could take a photo larger than life, but hey, it’s part of the fun of an adventure ride.

荒地

下面的2021 KTM 890冒险新利18苹果活动正在前往南达科他州斯特吉斯的冒险自行车集会,几周前@toesidehad it pull over for a photo op.

In Nigeria

A small village on the way from Argungun in northern Nigeria to Sokoto,@5n-advcouldn’t resist taking a picture of his 2015 KTM 1050 Adventure in front of the huts.

I was on a solo ride from Republic of Benin to northern Nigeria via Niger Republic. Amazing roads and views and I had a good time riding and meeting people along the way.

Smoke gets in your

. . . well, everything. At 06:00 on the Riley Road in southern Alberta’s Porcupine Hills, the smoke from fires burning in British Columbia paints a sunrise with warm colors and lends an otherworldly aspect to a ride for Lycan 1 and his 2018 KTM 1090 R.

And so, we come to another happy ending for all Inmates of ADVrider once again. Thank you for your photos, send more, please, and ride safely. And let’s all wish for a little relief for this tird old world of ours so that we can continue to explore and enjoy. Till next week!
