Hello everyone, I am hoping the collective wisdom of the inmates can clarify something for me. Despite my GSA supposedly having almost an 8 gallon tank, whenever I get down to 15 miles range according to the TFT, I can only put in about 7 gallons of gas, even filling it to the top of the filler neck. Is the last gallon considered reserves after the TFT says you have 0 miles left, of is the TFT just wildly inaccurate?

燃料注入了自行车a low fuel warning light and the float assemblies and fuel counters are about as accurate a Veglia gauges on a Guzzi. Like Veglia tach's they let you know the engine might be rotating. Far better to zero out the tripmeter and use it based on your average MPG.

Carb'ed bikes with a petcock with a reserve on it really not a reserve. You had the fuel with you the entire time. Moving the valve position just gives you access to it. If you left the petcock in the reserve mode it would run the tank dry. So arguable the petcock it what "reserves" the fuel not he tanks capacity. I guess the theory is if you had a bike with no tripmeter/odometer you would have no indication of how far you've traveled so once you ran out you could then access the remaining fuel to get you back to a fuel source.

I’m going off of my GS, but even when I’m down into the less than 50 miles, yellow “get to a gas station now”, I can only get within 1.5 gallons of a full tank, which has always left me thinking there is more miles than “0” left in thr tank as the reserve.
I’ve wondered this same question, I’ll be glad to here a definitive answer also. Cause the only way I know to “really” check it would be to ride around with extra, “safety” gas. :)

I have the same thoughts, I feel like I am missing some of the advantages of the 8 gallon tank. It feels like only a 6.5 to 7 gallon tank.

Close .. I’ve been close to zero many times and put in 7 ..I’m sure it’s give or take a little..
That said I have no idea how dry you can get the tank ie where the fuel pickups are.. but my guess .. you can go another 25 easy

I’ll let you be the one to test that theory.
The GSA is one heavy beast to push...:-)

just grab a 1G container of gas and ride up and down a stretch of road within 1G range of a station until you run out. Then you’ll know. Easy way to get ride of range anxiety, too.

Just pack a little 1-2 gallon jug on the back and let her eat.

I would recommend back roads for safety reasons. No traffic.

With the straight roads for hundreds of miles in the USA, you can give it full throttle and coast another 10 miles without fuel, seriously I rely more on the odo, 150 miles and take a break to fill up, plus it stops any sudden out of fuel bike stalling in the wrong place, be full or half full and be safe.:D

What's your definition of a full tank? Are you pumping until the pump clicks off,.or are you looking inside the tank as you pump and stopping when you see fuel near the bottom of the edge of the filler neck?

On almost all my bikes, once the pump self clicks, I can always get near another gallon of fuel in the tank by lifting the nozzle and pumping slowly watching the fuel level.

Not over filling but filling it proper.

The problem with that solution is that you might find yourself in totally different conditions when you actually find yourself low on fuel. The truth is, one could end with range anxiety with a 20 gallon fuel tank if you don’t plan your fuel stops based on your current conditions. With what appears to be a seven gallon useable Capacity, I have found my GSA has adequate range to get me anywhere that I have traveled in North America.

LC GSAs have 30L fuel tank (~7.9 Gal) of which 4L (~1.1Gal) is reserve - per owner's manual...

So, your TFT warning is a bit pessimistic as fuel gauges frequently are. That said, comparing to my previous GSAs (Hex/Camhead w faulty fuel gauges), LC fuel gauges are spot on accurate - ymmv...

On my '16 GSA, most I did, after DTE was showing "- - -", was 25 mi and still managed to put in barely 7.5 Gal of fuel so I could've kept going but chose not to push my luck - ymmv...

The bike will keep going well after it shows 0 miles range. I've taking it to 0 and beyond several times.

Good plan but it really only tells you what happening under those conditions. Lots of start/stops vs start once and run tank to tank or running into a good headwind always effect the fuel mileage. The only time I ever ran out of fuel was on my 2007 R1200GS the fuel counter said 18 miles to empty. The fuel pump did not agree and I pushed the bike 1200 feet to the gas station. Wanna know how I knew it was 1200 feet. I had the GPS on and ever few seconds it would verbally update me. 1200 feet... 1125.... feet 975... 625.... feet until I reached zero feet. Now I rely on the odometer plus a few buffer miles to account for variables.

Ah yes, the "it's OK, I will just switch it to reserve. Oh. It looks like I forgot to switch it back from reserve last time I filled up. Ah." moment.

我从不担心多近或多远过去零I can get on my 2020 GSA or any bike I've ever owned because I make sure I get gas at 1/4 tank. I know I can get over 300 miles to a tank on my GSA but many times I'll top the tank off at around 200-250 just so I'll have an excuse to get off the bike.
