Triumph has been manufacturing motorcycles for almost 120 years, but what many people don’t know is that the company started as a bicycle manufacturer in 1884 and did not make their first motorcycle until 1902. Now they have come full circle and are launching their first electric bicycle, the Triumph TREKKER GT. This is a high-end e-bike featuring a Shimano Steps E6100 motor and a Shimano E8035 504Wh battery integrated inside the frame. The combination of the lightweight design and Shimano powertrain gives this bike 90 miles (150km) range per charge.

I must say, I love the look of this bike with its silver and jet black paint scheme. You can see the designer went to a lot of effort to color match all the components. I have seen many e-bikes that leave a lot to be desired in the looks department.

The Trekker GT bicycle includes integrated LED lighting, full length matt-black mudguards, pannier rack, side stand and a ABUS pro-shield integrated lock. Optional accessories include a 270mm U-lock with chain and ground anchor, and a Muc-off / Triumph cleaning kit.

The Trekker GT is available immediately in the United States and Canada and will be priced at $3,750 in the US and $5,000 in Canada. This is a little less than roughly 1/3 of the price of a 900cc Triumph Street Twin. I can see this as the ideal companion for folks who live in the city and who already have a full size adventure bike and want a small urban commuter.

I have spoken to many people in the industry who firmly believe e-bicycles will convert riders to both gas and electric motorcycles. What do you think?
