What can you do, if you want to remake a BMW R80 in your own image?

For some ADVers, that answer is: Turn it into a G/S replica (see inmates’ thoughts on these lineshere). But for Gas & Retro, a custom shop based in Slovenia, the answer is: Make a street tracker.

Kind of a crazy idea, really, as BMWs are not known for going slideways (would you want that cylinder head digging into the speedway surface?), and street trackers are very much based on flat track racing machines. But, seeing as you aren’t really looking for the blue groove when you’re street riding, an airhead tracker replica is probably OK there—maybe even a practical, real-world-friendly repackaging of this engine?

Žiga Petek, the owner/operator at Gas & Retro, obviously drastically re-worked this platform, with a new exhaust, new front and rear suspension, and trick-looking bodywork. While the suspension is off-the-shelf stuff repurposed from other machines, this ’89 RT model gets a one-off exhaust, tank and seat assembly. Gas & Retro specializes in production of this stuff for other makes and models, so it makes sense to build this stuff in-house and put its own spin on the job!

You can see an excellent, in-depth write-up on the machine over atBikeEXIF, and if you like what you see there, you can head over toBikeShedand buy it! Asking price is €17,499, which works out to roughly $19,000 USD. If you can’t afford that, you can at least keep up with Gas & Retro’s work at its Facebook pagehere, and find more pictures of this creative re-design of a classic.
