Harley-Davidsonhas just revealed its newest model, the Harley-Davidson Nightster. Harley says that the new machine is “…a leap forward in performance and design while remaining an accessible entry point to motorcycling and the brand.”

The latest entry into Harley-Davidson’s stripped-down Sportster series, the Nightster takes that line’s classic silhouette and adds the all-new Revolution Max 975T powertrain and an electronics package, with safety features like ABS and traction control.

Perhaps the most significant change is the bike’s new Revolution Max 975T powerplant. Harley says the liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin engine’s power stays flat through the powerband, although it has significantly less jam than the 1250 model it’s based on. It’s still a lot more hairy-chested than the old air-cooled Evolution Sporster engine. Those gains are made possible by the bike’s dual overhead camshafts and the Variable Valve Timing phasing, along with a carefully-tuned air intake system.

Revolution Max 975T Engine Specs

The Nightster’s Revolution Max engine has a bore of 97mm and stroke of 66mm, resulting in a displacement of 975cc. With its 12:1 compression ratio, it puts out a claimed 90hp (67 kW) at 7,500 RPM.

Safety technology

The Nightster comes complete with technology to help improve riding safety and convenience. Onboard you’ll find a front and rear independently operating anti-lock braking system (ABS). However, the system is not lean-angle sensitive. Harley makes this clear by stating that the system prevents the wheels from locking under braking and helps the rider maintain controlwhen braking in a straight line.

A traction control system (TCS) has also made its way onto the Nightster. It is switchable, so the rider can deactivate it when the motorcycle stops, and the engine is running. Harley says its TCS “…can improve rider confidence when available traction is compromised by wet weather, an unanticipated change in the surface, or riding on an unpaved road.”

Rounding out the safety enhancements is what Harley calls the Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS). It design adjusts engine torque delivery and reduces excessive rear-wheel slip under powertrain induced deceleration.”

Selectable Ride Modes

The Nightster has three Selectable ride modes; Road, Sport, and Rain.

  • Road Mode: Harley says Road Mode is for daily use to deliver balanced performance. In this mode, the system provides less aggressive throttle response and less mid-range engine power than in Sport mode and delivers a higher level of ABS and TCS intervention.
  • Sport Mode: Sport Mode gives the rider the Nightster’s full performance potential. It offers full engine power and a more aggressive throttle response. In this mode, the bike’s TCS is at its lowest level of intervention, and engine braking is high.
  • 降雨模式:哈雷说雨模式提供了更大的公司nfidence in wet conditions or when traction is otherwise limited. Both throttle response and engine power output “…restrain the rate of acceleration, engine braking is limited, and the highest levels of ABS and TCS intervention are selected.

Fuel tank, instrumentation, and lighting

In a bid to increase the size of the bike’s airbox and lower the bike’s center of gravity, and improve handling, The Nightster features a 3.1-gallon “lightweight” plastic fuel cell underneath the seat. Harley says the new fuel location makes the bike easier to lift off the side stand. The traditional-looking steel tank is actually a cover for the machine’s airbox and doesn’t hold any fuel.

To let you know what’s happening with the machine, there’s a round four-inch diameter analog speedometer with an inset multi-function LCD mounted on the handlebar riser. The bike’s lighting is all LED. The headlight features Harley-Davidson’s Daymaker unit, which produces “…a homogenous spread of light, eliminating distracting hot spots.” On the rear fender, you’ll find a combination brake/tail/signal light (USA model only).

Harley says the new machine is; “All new from the wheels up with a look that is lean, low, and powerful.” In addition, the machine conveys Harley Sportster styling cues, especially with the exposed rear shock and the faux fuel tank that commemorates the Sportster’s traditional “walnut” fuel tank. The Nightster continues this trend with a round intake cover, solo seat, chopped fenders, and a speed screen. Finally, the side covers resemble the Sportster’s oil tank.

Of course, the bike’s core is its Revolution Max engine. And it features “snaking exhaust headers” which have a textured Metallic Charcoal powder coat finish with gloss black inserts. The bike’s radiator gets a cover to conceal the battery and help reduce the radiator’s profile. Satin Black wheels finish off the design philosophy.

Paint, pricing, and availability

You can get the Nightster in three colors; Vivid Black, Gunship Grey, and Redline Red. These colors will only be on the airbox cover (faux fuel tank). The front and rear fenders and speed screen come in Vivid Black only.

The Nightster should arrive in dealerships globally beginning in April 2022. Its base price in the US is $13,499 in Vivid Black. Nightsters in other colors will set you back $13,899 US.
