The North East Backcountry Discovery Route is now available for download through the BDR website, launching this past weekend.

Backcountry Discovery Routes is a non-profit organization aimed at promoting off-pavement travel for dual sport and adventure bikes. Since 2010, BDR has published a new adventure riding route every year in the form of free GPS tracks, sometimes teaming up with Butler Maps for a printed version of the route. The routes BDR produces are aimed at providing a fun ride, but also to bring business to rarely-visited rural communities, and also help riders keep their access to off-road routes.

The North East Backcountry Discovery Route, the group’s latest effort, travels through the New England states, starting in east New York and ending in Maine, at the Quebec border. This route is 1317 miles (2119 kilometres) long, and travels through small villages, farm country, and remote woods tracks. It doesn’t visit the coast, but if you want to see the Atlantic Ocean, it’s not far away. You can see the whole route at the BDR websitehere. There’s a waterproof Butler Maps version of the route coming eventually, if you want to augment the GPS file.

To promote the route, there’s a new BDR film showing what adventures you can expect along the way. The movie is being shown all around the US and even in Canada, and while some showings are sold out, you may be able to catch a viewing if you’re lucky. See showing dateshere.
