The 2021 Moto Guzzi V7 line is here, with two models kicking off the next-generation machine.

To be clear—this is still very much a Moto Guzzi V7, not some horrible space-age re-imagining of the classic roadster. The base-model Stone and the glammed-up Special are both visually much the same as before. However, the engine gets a big bump in output for 2021.

Moto Guzzi’s new V7 is based closely on theV85 TT, with an air-cooled 850cc transverse V-twin engine. It’s higher-revving for 2021, with 65 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 54 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. Previously, the V7 made 52 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 44 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. The power should be available through most of the rev range, though, as the presser says “80% of the torque already available at 3,000 rpm.”

With Euro5 emissions regulations coming into effect in January, the new Guzzi should meet that standard as well, which explains why it’s being updated. It’s getting harder and harder to get big-piston bikes through emissions regs, and we’re seeing a rise in displacement as manufacturers attempt to clean up emissions without losing power. No doubt that partially explains why the V7, traditionally a 750, is now an 850.

The emissions regs also explain the higher-revving power curves (no doubt there were some top end changes in the engine, along with the bigger cylinders). There’s also a new exhaust, as you’d expect, and Moto Guzzi put a bigger shaft drive on the V7. There’s also a new set of rear shocks, courtesy of Kayaba, with longer travel.

The V7 Stone is the plain-jane version, with cast wheels and a single LCD gauge. The flashy Special has fancy dual clocks and spoked wheels. Of course, the bodywork is updated for 2021, and there are some changes to the frame, but nothing too earth-shaking. At this point, we don’t have an arrival date for either machine in North America, or an MSRP.
