Time for another catch-up look at the Airhead 247 podcast! This time, host Daren Dortin talks to David Lee, a vintage Beemer enthusiast who’s been selling high-end vintage machines on the Bring a Trailer website for years now. Finally, we’re going to get a look behind the scenes, and maybe learn some secrets of BaT!

Here’s what to expect this time around:

As a motorcycle aficionado let’s assume it’s a safe bet you scour the internet looking at bikes for sale–probably on a daily basis. Recently one website has gained a ton of traffic and always seems to have some very presentable classics for sale, that’s Bring a Trailer. Now, this episode is not about BaT necessarily but about a fella called David Lee who has listed and sold nearly a dozen classic airheads over the past 3 or 4 years on BaT.

I’ve always been impressed with his offerings and attention to detail on the bikes he lists. I met David when he contacted me about a 76 60/6 I had for sale a few years back. He did not buy the bike but we ended up having a great phone chat and found out we had additional concentric circles, aside from our love of classic BMWs—that was our history as touring musicians. We’ll explore David’s history as a musician, how he got started with airheads and chat about his philosophy of buying and selling classic bikes.

Sounds like a fun listen!

The Airhead 247 podcast is the work of an ADV inmate (Dortin posts under the handle @tennessee thumper), and while other ‘casts focus on the broad, wide world of adventure riding, or maybe focus on travel, or on the custom scene, or a specific brand,Airhead 247 is super-focused. As we told you inour initial write-up, “The Airhead 247 podcast will look at the 1970-1995 BMW scene, when the company’s air-cooled 247 engine and the bikes it powered earned a reputation for style, practical engineering and reliability.” However, since airhead fans are usually fans of motorcycling in general, you’ll also get plenty of non-BMW insight. As host Dortin says, “Even if you’re not an airhead fan, there’s some great motorcycle conversation and knowledge packed in each episode.”

Episodes drop every two weeks, and since this David Lee episode actually came out more than 10 days ago, we should expect another update this weekend. Stay tuned!
