The owners of a now-defunct Massachusetts trucking companyWestfield Transportare facing charges of falsifying records and lying to authorities. Dunyadar Gasanov and Dartanayan Gasanov are charged with falsifying driving logs to evade federal safety regulations.

According to U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling, the two face multiple charges. Dunyadar Gasanov faces one count of falsification of records. His other charges include conspiracy to falsify records, and making a false statement to a federal investigator. Dartanayan Gasanov faces a single charge of falsification of records.

The indictments come after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) completed its review of the crash that killed seven. They found multiple safety violations and failures of the government agencies that led and/or contributed to the crash.

The NTSB said the trucking company’s “substantial disregard for and egregious noncompliance with safety regulations” contributed to the crash. They also faulted the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles’ failure to revoke Zhukovskyy’s license after he had his driving privileges revoked in another state.

As a result of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles’ failures, the NTSB recommended that the agency put together “appropriate metrics and establish a process to regularly evaluate the effectiveness of [its] processing of out-of-state notifications.”

The crash has led to numerous other investigations that are still on-going. The State of Massachusetts is also investigating Westfield Transport and has yet to make its final findings public.
