BMW Motorradhas issued a recall for a wide range of its 2019 and 2020 models due to a problem with the rear brake light. According to BMW, during emergency braking, the brake light may flash instead of remaining on steadily. As such, the affected motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. The German manufacturer goes on to say that this condition could cause confusion among other drivers/riders on the road and increase the risk of a crash.
In total, 4,026 motorcycles may have the aforementioned defect. Below is a list of the years and models affected:

BMW will notify owners of affected motorcycles who should take their motorcycle to an authorized BMW dealer for repair. Dealers will reprogram the emergency stop signal function free of charge. Interestingly, the recall is not expected to begin until May 4, 2020.
