Hello, ADVrider Inmates, and welcome to another issue of Photos of the Week. We start off with a shot by@Animo, who a few months ago was with friends in the small Guatemalan city of Antigua “when the Fire Volcano erupted.” We don’t get photos of volcanic eruptions every day here at ADVrider, so we’re tipping our Shoei to this one. “It was a spectacular event,” Animo says, “best seen on a motorcycle.” You can say that again! Animo was riding the BMW R1200 GS at right.

Cruisin’ America!

Eastern Oregon, actually, although the pic immediately below looks suspiciously like a Pacific Oean shot, and they are probably fishing for salmon.@Zuussays he was riding a 2020 KTM 790 and his budy was on a Triumph Tiger 800 when they weren’t on the boat.

Weather was awesome! Ended up partway home, in Dayton, Wa for a beer and pizza.

图片were taken in June of this year.

一壶彩虹

Our friend@Xdsbikerwas riding with his son on the last day of a five-day tour around Lake Superior and were setting up camp near Engadine, Michigan, “when some intermittent rain came thru. Then the rainbows came and a great photo opportunity.” The father and son riders were aboard a 2014 Moto Guzzi Stelvio and a 2018 Honda Africa Twin. This was just a couple of weeks ago.

That’s a big rock

Here we have KxLarry with his 2015 KTM 1190 at Red Canyon in Capital Reef, all in the great state of Utah. Photo taken a few months ago.

Well, itisCalifornia, after all

The Honda CRF1000 DCT in the picture (it’s the one on the left) was enjoying a ride with@Veeblefetzera couple of weeks ago when it came up against an alien life form. We’ll let Mr. Fetzer tell you what happened next.

Off track routes find off track stuff. This one’s still on its tracks.

Taking a detour from the Pacific Coast Highway, I backtracked down CA271 and US101 to take a hairpin left onto Bell Springs Road. Twenty miles of gravel and then for relief 15 miles of motley pavement. And then you’re in Garberville. Somewhere in there I ran across this . . . thing. Looks like something one of Stanislav Lem’s constructors left behind to worship the sun; on tank tracks and with beady eyes, the whole weird California scape behind it. No one around to ask what the hee-heck it was, or how it got there.

Hey, nice perch!

He was leaving “the primitive camp at my Michigan U.P. vacation property one morning” in June, says@Bultaco206, when “I noticed a grouse was eyeing me from the woods.” That’s a 2019 Honda CRF450L.

As I was ready to leave on my bike she decided to fly up for a better look. I was able to get her to hop down so I could be on my way.

After the rally

@Mobyfubarsays he was out on Hwy 17 in the Canadian province of Ontario “overlooking Lake Superior” when he took this shot of his 2015 Yamaha Super Ténéré ES in front of the big water. “I returned to Ohio from the MSTA STAR rally in La Crosse, WI, via Ontario. The scenery was wonderful (after the rain stopped).” Photo was taken with a Nikon D5200, 18-55mm lens, ISO 100, 1/125 at f11.

What’s that tree doing there?

Do you see the 2008 Suzuki DL650 V-Strom dodging the branch. It was carrying@Osdirtbikerand his wife on a tour of Pennsylvania what that happened. We’ll let our correspondent tell you the tale after the pic, which was taken in June.

With the price of gas at $5/gal. my wife and I decided to take the vstrom on our 8 day vacation to explore our home state of Pennsylvania, instead of our pickup and camper. On the first day of our trip we were taking some dirt roads that follow the west side of “the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon” nearing Colton Point s.p. when we came upon this tree blocking the road. At first I thought we would have to back track, but upon closer inspection I decided to ride in the ditch along side road, which gave enough clearance to get under and continue on our way. The rest of the trip went very well, and when we added up all our expenses it added up to $450. Not bad for an 8 day vacation for two.

Nice view, though!

@Mt Hillbillysays he “tried to make it up to Werner Peak lookout near Whitefish, MT” and found the snow drifts too deep, even in June.

Did the classic pull up to snow drift, stop . . . and . . . couldn’t reach the ground. So slow lay over rolled wife off the back, into the little melting snow stream. She wasn’t overly impressed. I will vouch for the upper crash bar protection!

Desert sled

@SPKRsays the pics below of his 2008 HDT KLR650 diesel, “now my desert sled scrambler,” were taken a few months ago “riding the single track east of Tucson, off Ridington Pass.”

Good choice, eh?

He was “summer solstice camping in the bushy across the highway from Liard Hot Springs in northern British Columbia,” says@Stecubel, when he was “given the choice of ‘sleeping with the bears or where the buffalo trample.’ I carry bear spray so figured I’d have a better chance with bears than being stomped on by buffalo. The last time I came through here was in 1977 and the Alaska highway has changed! It was a beautiful ride with the only point being to make it to Liard Hot Springs for a soak and then turn around and head 1500km back home to Edmonton.

That’s a 2017 Trumph Tiger 800 XCX in the bear- and buffalo-free photo below.

Blue view

The photo below portrays nicely the 2021 Yamaha Ténéré 700 and 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 of@Pakawilddogs1and buddy as they were riding the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina a few weeks ago. They stopped to take in the view and snapped a pic for us.

The mighty Matterhorn

For our last photo of the week we have a shot by Frederik of a 2011 BMW F800 GS and a 1991 Honda XL600V Transalp in theItalian Alps on a “bike trip across Europe, with a view of Mount Matterhorn in the background.” A fitting end to our photo journey for this week.

Well, that’s it for now, Inmates. Thank you for coming, and we hope you enjoyed the views. Remember to send us your pictures, please—we’re running a little short here in the palatial ADVrider photo chamber! We’ll see you next week and looking forward to it!
