According to the UK’s Autocycle Union, after extensive detailed consultation with the major stakeholders of Motorcycle Live, and the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) a decision has been made. The MCIA Board of Directors has agreed to cancel this year’s show.

COVID-19 impact

The stated culprit is the impact of COVID-19. The restrictions that include social distancing requirements, possible limits on attendance numbers, and limited access, were key considerations. Ultimately, it was the negative effect on visitor experience and the potential damage to the event’s reputation that drove their decision.

The ACU says that the event is all about audience interaction, fun, and social engagement. Central to the event’s success are its features and visitor activities. Further, according to the ACU, the impacts of COVID-19 restrictions would act to diminish visitor’s experiences and could potentially place visitors and staff at risk.

Reasons why

Managing Director of Motorcycle Live Finlay McAllan had this to say about the event’s cancellation:

Being unable to deliver Motorcycle Live in Association with Bikesure, unaffected by the Covid-19 situation in any way was not practical or achievable. The whole team is extremely disappointed, but look forward to delivering Motorcycle Live again in 2021”.

The Chief Executive of the MCIA, Tony Campbell added:

The MCIA Board is very disappointed with having to reach this decision, but in the current climate we all felt it was the right thing to do. Motorcycle Live is the industry showcase and to deliver a compromised event was in no one’s interest. Public safety and that of the industry team was our first consideration”

While it’s disappointing that another motorcycle event has been canceled, the MCIA is already looking forward to 2021. Next year’s show dates are between November 20 through November 28, 2021.
