Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are amongthe countries least affected by the COVID-19, and they have already opened the borders within the Baltic region. While some European countries remain shut or are still requiring self-isolation and quarantine from travelers, the Baltic States now allow free travel. Here’s why riding these three tiny countries might make for an interesting adventure:
It’s Quiet
As in, really, really quiet. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia still have plenty of forests, lakes, and wild beaches barely ever visited by tourists. Here, you can still ride off-road as much as you like, both following the official Trans Euro Trail routes or exploring on your own; you can wild camp just about everywhere except national reserves, and if you leave the bigger cities and towns behind, you’ve got the place to yourself. If you’re looking to get away, the Baltics might be the perfect place to do so.
2. It’s Cheap
Not as cheap as the Balkans or Romania, but still much more economical than France or Italy, the Baltic States are a great place for low-key adventures. Be sure to ride here in the summer and take full advantage of the many free campsites.
3. It’s Got Great Food
Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians love food and beer, and the local cuisine is as diverse as it is delicious. Coastal towns are amazing when it comes to freshly caught fish; for meat lovers, this is the place to try game such as wild boar, deer, and rabbit; and for vegetarians and vegans, there are lots of veggie options with fresh, farm-grown food.
4. It’s Motorcycle-Friendly
We don’t have impressive mountains in the Baltics, but we do have lots and lots of off-road riding, some lovely coastal roads, and solid motorcycle culture.
