SpaceCamper CEO Ben Wawra lives the van life, somethingI can very much relate to. Though his company specializes in Volkswagen camper vans, it’s branching out into the world of two wheels with the aptly namedSpaceCamper Bike.

The theory is similar to a camper that slides into the bed of a pickup truck. In this case, the SpaceCamper addition drops into aRiese and Müller Load 75 eBike. This bike has an unconventional design that puts the rider in the back with traditional controls, then adds a long cargo area in front of the handlebar stem, with the front wheel steered remotely. Obviously, this isn’t going to work with any motorcycle on the market today. But what if it could?

The SpaceCamper Bike includes a fold-out bed that can be converted into a comfortable chair. A portable table clips onto the handlebars for your cup of coffee, or your laptop if you’re going full-blown #digitalnomad. All this fits under a tent that extends over the top of the bike. There’s still plenty of storage space for all the stuff you take camping, too.

Imagine something along these lines designed for a motorcycle instead. One of my friends has already been known to take naps on top of her Honda VTX. It wouldn’t take much more than a camping pad to make this a bit more comfortable. A flat piece of wood and a trip to your local hardware store could create the clip-on table. It would take someone with a different skill set than me to design and build the tent, but it’s certainly possible.

Since you wouldn’t be pedaling the bike, why not add more bells and whistles? You could be the most popular person at the end of a ride by offering hot showers. Add a lithium battery and solar panel, and you could power a small refrigerator for cold beer after the ride (admittedly, ice in a Honda PC800 trunk does the same thing). The tent could have a mounting bracket for a Starlink antenna, keeping you connected wherever you go. Why not turn your rear rack into a propane grill?

Yes, I’m going a little bit crazy here. Or am I? While some of these ideas are ridiculous, others are certainly possible. One thing I’ve learned in van life is there are some extremely creative people out there who never stop finding unique ways to turn their tiny homes on wheels into comfortable living spaces customized for their exact needs. Who’s to say you can’t do that with a motorcycle?
