The BMW R1300 GS debuted on September 28, 2023 with significant updates over the previous R1250-series model. The base bike comes in a form we’re all familiar with; a 19-17 wheel package, long-travel Telelever and Paralever suspension, and a flat twin engine. And BMW took a different tack than what we’ve seen from so many adventure bikes since the R80 G/S; yes, we got a larger engine that makes more power, but this time, the flagship lost weight (it’s down 26 pounds) and BMW also designed the bike to be physically smaller and therefore easier to manage on the trails.

Another familiar theme that returns is a broad accessory package, and sub-models that you can buy with many of these accessories pre-installed. Buying these bikes pre-built means you can get something more-or-less configured how you want without the hassles of installing those farkles yourself, or the expense of paying a shop to do so.

Here is a look at what the three sub-variants offer:

这个包似乎更针对街uring. BMW adds more comfortable seats for this bike, and passenger pegs that are supposed to provide more roomy accommodation. There’s also a center stand, which might be a bit of a puzzler on a machine with no chain to maintain, but BMW has indeed offered these for decades on its shaft-driven tourers, and the new R1300 GS Triple Black gets one too.

In the US, BMW wants $19,870 for the Triple Black package, a $975 premium over the standard model.

What is a Tramauntana? Nothing to do with trauma or tarantulas—it is the name of a mountain range in Spain, the sort of place that well-heeled adventure bikers might like to take their GS on a few days’ vacation. As such, this sub-model is outfitted with a rear luggage carrier for your topbox (that costs extra). It’s also painted in an Aurelius Green Metallic scheme, with spoked, gold-colored rims and a gold-anodized handlebar. This bike also gets the comfort seat, BMW calls it an “enduro” touring variant, and obviously it is intended to look good while doing so. BMW’s rear-radar Riding Assistant also comes standard, at least in some markets, offering blind spot/lane change assistance. Asking price, $22,090 in the US.

BMW R1300 GS Trophy

TheGS Trophyis BMW’s in-house competition for amateur riders who want to pit their riding and adventure travel skills against each other. As a result, this bike is set up for bashing around off-road. Of course you also get a special paint job (Racing Blue Metallic, with White Metallic Matte frame in back, and red highlights). There’s a rally-style seat that will add some height, and radiator guards and spoked wheels come standard. So do radiator guards and skid plate, and a frame guard. Asking price is the same as the Triple Black model, $19,870 in the US.

No Adventure sub-model?

BMW fans are used to the flagship GS also coming in an Adventure sub-model, with more fuel capacity and usually better suspension, more wind protection and skid plate and other guards as stock. At this point, no such machine has been advertised, although we would be surprised if it didn’t get here soon. If it doesn’t? We would guess the GS Trophymight beintended as its replacement. But we doubt it…
