It appears that the Joe Gibbs Racing MX (JGRMX) team is now defunct. The team had been in negotiations with its then-current sponsor, Suzuki, for a new agreement. However, the negotiations were unsuccessful.

In a November 12th press release, Suzuki said that the partnership between JGRMX and Suzuki had concluded. Many hoped that the team could find a new title sponsor and continue racing in AMA Supercross and Motocross. But those hopes were quickly dashed by the team themselves.

InFacebookand Instagram posts, JGRMX thanked its fans for their support:

The JGRMX family would like to thank all of our fans, riders and sponsors for 13 great years.#JGRMX

And that quickly, JGRMX was no more.

The Joe Gibbs Racing MX team has closed its doors.

The Joe Gibbs Racing MX team was founded in the 2008 racing season. NFL and NASCAR championship-winning coach Joe Gibbs owned the organization while his son Coy Gibbs ran it. Later, JGRMX hired ex-racer Jeremy Albrecht to manage the team.

Although they did muster a number of wins throughout the years, a series championship evaded them. The exact reason for the failure of negotiations is not clear. But the lack of championships, combined with the economic disaster caused by COVID certainly didn’t help.

Ultimately, the loss of JGRMX is yet another tough break for the motocross industry. Earlier this year, the GEICO Honda race team closed its doors as well. The loss of two major race teams is a significant issue and if the trend continues, some wonder whether AMA Supercross and Motocross will be able to continue as viable entities.

Time will tell.
