The made-in-China Harley-Davidson project is still coming, says a report out of the UK. Even though it’s been many months since we first saw the teases, spy shots and then official confirmation of these machines, the bike remain unrevealed, but supposedly, one of the major blocks in the road has been removed.

Ben Purvis tellsBikeSocial readersthat the hold-up in the project was Harley-Davidson’s planned joint venture with Chinese manufacturer Qianjiang. Both parties were waiting on government approval of their partnership, reports Purvis, and now the Chinese bigwigs have stamped it with their approval.

That leaves us wondering: How long ’til we actually see production versions of these bikes? Maybe as soon as next month?

Harley-Davidson has a big lineup reveal coming in about a month’s time, and we would expect to see all sorts of baggers, cruisers and other V-twins breaking cover, a big flashy news conference (streamed online, of course) for big flashy bikes. Would Harley-Davidson dare reveal its budget-oriented machines from China at that point? Probbbbbblyyyyy not.

Instead, it seems more likely both bikes will break cover later in the winter.

A 350 and a 500

Wait, “both” bikes? Yeah. From the documents and spy shots we’ve seen so far, it sounds as if Harley-Davidson plans a small-cc bike and a middleweight. Back in March, we told you about spy shots surfacing that showed a bike that appeared to combine Harley-Davidson’s badge with the same parallel twin engine that features in the Benelli TRK502.

The smaller bike originally seemed to be a 338, but now suspicion is that Harley-Davidson will actually use Qianjiang’s 350 to power the machine. Again, this is all speculation. It is also speculated that Harley-Davidson actually plans to bring these bikes to western markets. Frankly, it seems unlikely to expect them in North American showrooms anytime soon… but maybe after a few years, after first appearing in moto training programs? That seems a bit more possible.
