Honda continues to add groovy little minibikes to its lineup, with the new Dax miniMOTO model debuting in Europe this morning.

Wait—the Dax? What? Turns out that’s what our Japanese friends called the CT50/CT70/CT90 lineup back in the 1970s; across the pond, they called this the ST series.

Now, Honda’s bringing this idea back, with the new Dax 125 unveiled for Europe. Looking at the bike, it’s a very familiar design, updated for the 2020s. You have a big steel tube frame with the fuel-injected, air-cooled engine hanging beneath—like the ’70s Dax, this engine is borrowed from elsewhere in Honda’s lineup. It’s the same 124cc single-cylinder that Honda uses in the Grom, the Monkey, the CT125, the Super Cub, and the MSX125 scooter. It should have a four-speed gearbox, and make roughly 9.5 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, and 7.7 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.

Not a powerhouse, then. Like the rest of the new 125 lineup, the Dax is about low-priced fun, and is more likely to be used as a pit bike, an around-town runabout or even a stunt machine. Having said that, both the new Super Cub and CT125 are attracting some interest from the travel community, and rtwpaul is reportedly currently investigating the CT125’s usefulness as a lightweight, affordable ADV machine (read morehere!).

We haven’t seen an English-language release from Honda yet, only Spanish—but if Google Translate is not leading us astray, then you can expect the Dax to come with a stamped steel frame, a 31 mm USD fork, 12-inch wheels front and back, LED lights and LCD gauges, and a weight of 235 pounds (107 kilograms).

What about pricing? Uh, we’re not sure. It will be a good while before we see it in North America anyway, and given our current supply chain issues, it’s probably unwise to base a future USD/CAD price on today’s Euro price.
