If there is someone who knows about protecting motorcycle riders from the elements, it is Craig Vetter. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee is the inventor of the Vetter Windjammer fairing, among other notable accolades in the motorcycle industry, and also invented Hippo Hands back in the 1970s. The original motorcycle hand covers, Hippo Hands have been evolving ever since Craig wrapped his handlebars with his sleeping bag and duct tape while on a particularly cold ride. For 2022, Hippo Hands are releasing their newest innovations in design and materials, so riders can continue riding in adverse weather conditions in comfort and safety.

“Comfort every ride”, is Hippo Hands’ mantra, and their goal is to give riders three-season riding protection. To that end, their latest innovations include more secure attachment, with a cleaner design that fits tighter to mirror stalks, and more reflective elements. HippoSkin provides wind and water protection, while HippoFat gives durable and flexible insulation. Signature embedded 3M reflective panels provide increased visibility to the front panels, and five-ply nylon thread is both UV protected and mildew resistant for long-term durability.

The Alcan model is Hippo Hands’ most protective model, originally designed for the BMW GS, but they fit most adventure and sport touring bikes. They are 12″ (304mm) deep, stay open at high speeds, and, like all Hippo Hands models, are designed to fit over hand guards.

The Rogue is slightly smaller than the Alcan, at 10.5″ (266mm) deep, but feature similar features, such as the HippoSkin™ shell and HippoFat™ insulation.

The Backcountry is the smaller of the Hippo Hands models, at 9″ (228mm) deep, and is meant for motorcycle riders who spend time standing in the pegs, such as dirt bikers and enduro riders, as well as being suitable for snow bikes and cycling commuters.

By providing maximum protection from wind, precipitation, and cold, riders using Hippo Hands are able to wear less bulky gloves, allowing better feel and control of the handlebars and switchgear.

All Hippo Hands feature tool-less installation, and go on and off in seconds. They come with a five-year warranty, and are available direct from Oregon-based Hippo Hands, or from select dealers in the US. For more information, or to order a set, visithttps://www.hippohands.com/.
