去od day, ADV Inmates, and welcome to POTW number 31. We kickstart this week with a shot by@The Bear, taken in Norway “a dozen years ago,” when he and his nephew were told that “Trollstigen was still closed (in June)” so were “finding another way to get up in the ranges to return to Oslo.” That’s The Bear’s nephew Joern on his BMW R1200 GS on the left side of the image. We are featuring this photo because it’s about time The Bear led off one of these weekly expeditions through Pictureland, and even more so because we like the reminder that Adventure riding doesn’t all take place in sunshine and warm temperatures.

I’m a gonna Arizona!

In June of this year,@duhridertook on Section 3 of the Arizona BDR in a solo adventure. “I wanted to camp on the edge of the Mogollon Rim, but needed some tree cover for the wind.” That’s a 2021 Yamaha Tenere 700 named Scarlett, by the way.

In Arizona, you get your shade where you can.

“I lack the skills to convey the drama that is the Mogollin Rim. Like standing on the edg of the world.”

“I think the AZBDR is rated third most difficult for the never ending rocks. Seriously, rocks everywhere but this one section of the trail was relentless. First gear crawling at 10 mph for . . . a while.”

“Got some lunch and rested in the town of Mormon Lake.”

No minced words

The sign above Swain Ski Hill in western New York leaves plenty to the imagination—maybe too much. Thanks to@Nytrainerfor the pic, which was taken a few years ago. Would you turn back? That’s a 2004 Suzuki DR650 contemplating its possible futures.

The dirt says you meant it

Here is John with a 2017 BMW R1200 GSA after leaving “the hacienda Thursday (June 11, 2022) for Stevenson, Washington, to run Section 1 of the WABDR.”

Oops! Upon arrival in Packwood, WA, the end of Section 1, my son noted how dirty I was. I had a clean suit upon leaving the house … Section 1 was really dusty, but it was a great ride!

Toil and trouble

The picture below was submitted by@Paulk690, who tells us that while riding the Great Cymry Trail part of the UK TeT, “Dave decides to check if his puncture repair worked by putting his wheel in a water bath.” That’s a KTM 640, and the photo was taken in early August.

The photo below was taken by Paulk690 around the same time as the one above, and shows a 2020 KTM 790 Adv R. “Taking advantage of the UK’s heatwave, tales of Wales not having rain proved accurate. High above Harlech, North Wales on the Great Cymry Trail ( UK TET), a stop to take in the view, and eat Sour Patch Kids.”

More from Nakul

We’re a little short of images this week, so we’re closing out with the last of the batch that@Nakulmaliksent us a few weeks ago. These images were all taken in July on a tour into the remote Zanskar region in the high Himalayas. Nakul has promised more, so stay tuned.

And with that we’ll say good night to all and to all a good night. If you have pictures for us, click on the link below and send them in, or we’ll end up printing pictures of Steve’s cat, and you don’t need that nightmare on your mind. Thanks for coming by, have a great late August week, and ride with one eye on adventure and the other on safety! And then send us the pictorial evidence.
