BRP, the company behind Can-Am, says it’s started construction of its first EV manufacturing plant, which will produce their first electric motorcycles in the very near future.

The new factory is in Querétaro, Mexico. Wait—Can-Am isn’t going to make these bikes in Canada or America? No; BRP has been building recreational vehicles in Mexico for a while, and this is a way for the company to keep production in North America while still keeping prices down. Can-Am already has production in Querétaro, and the new factory opens next door to that facility.

The new factory will be focused on the Can-Am electric motorcycleswe saw revealed in early August. We didn’t learn a whole lot about the bikes at that point, but Can-Am says these machines (including a new dual sport) will be on the market in 2024. The production of the new Pulse and Origin motorcycles is supposed to start in March of that year, with deliveries that summer.

At first, Can-Am says the new factory will generate 500 new jobs. The presser really lays the social justice aspect of this factory on thick: “It was designed following the LEED principles with sustainable materials, in line with BRP’s Corporate Social Responsibility Plan to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations. Furthermore, the Company intends to offer an inclusive work environment accessible to everyone, with modifiable workstations that can be adapted to different people.

It’s hard to imagine most motorcyclists caring too much about modifiable work stations where their bike was made, but if a company can treat its employees well and cause less environmental damage, that’s a good thing. Itistoo bad that the bikes won’t be made in Canada, but even the original Can-Ams had plenty of parts come in from overseas, so it’s not an unexpected move.
