BMW introduced its new R1300 GS adventure bike to the public last week, with a virtual launch on YouTube and a riding launch to come. It’s a big step forward for BMW, a move away from the constant bigger-is-better advancement we’ve seen in the past few years from most OEMs. The all-new engine makes more power, but it’s a lighter bike, and smaller than the outgoing R1250 GS.

The suspension is updated, and the brakes are new. The electronics package is reconfigured, and many features that were formerly options (ABS Pro, heated grips, cruise control) are standard now. It looks different, too, in a Euro-style fashion with a bit of Japanese DNA cooked in. Asking price in the US is $18,895 MSRP plus taxes and fees.

You can see our write-uphere, and see dozens of photos of the new bike below.
