Harley-Davidson has just taken the wraps off a massive new crate engine that’s destined for its Touring lineup—that is, it will be available as an add-on. The bikes will not come with this 135 ci V-twin as stock!

Officially, the new powerplant is called the Screamin’ Eagle 135ci Stage IV Performance Crate Engine, and Harley-Davidson says it makes 130 hp at the rear wheel at 5500 rpm, and 143 lb-ft of rear-wheel torque at 3500 rpm. That’s a gain of about 27 percent more torque and 41 percent more horsepower at the rear wheel, says Harley-Davidson—impressive for what’s effectively a bolt-on mod, albeit avery expensivebolt-on mod. Asking price is $7,999.95 US; it does come with a two-year warranty, though!

Harley’s press release does mention that you might need a couple of other factory-built parts if you want to install this engine, but you don’t need to mess around with engine mounts or anything like that to make it fit. As well, some re-tuning is needed with Harley-Davidson’s Screamin’ Eagle Pro Street Tuner, and the press release says “Does not fit California models.” Errrr, yes—we’re sure no Californian will ever try to put this into their H-D tourer, ever.

Actually, it might sound kind of funny putting something like that into the marketing materials, but given the constant witchhunt from California’s state authorities, looking for riders who may be extracting more power from their bike without using government-approved means, it’s no surprise that the MoCo has to say that sort of thing.

How does Harley-Davidson get this power from the engine, aside from the obvious benefit of a big-bore job? As per the presser:

This street-ready performance engine features premium Screamin’ Eagle components:

  • New 68mm throttle body and matching CNC-machined intake manifold, originally developed for Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory racing team engines, to maximize airflow to the engine.
  • Screamin’ Eagle Extreme CNC-ported cylinder heads provide significantly improved efficiency of cylinder filling, leading to more explosive power and increased rear-wheel torque when compared to stock. High-performance valve springs remain stable with the high-lift cam and in high-RPM operation.
  • Screamin’ Eagle Pro Billet Cam Plate and Oil Pump provides higher pressure when the oil is hot to keep pressure drops to a minimum.
  • New 10.7:1 high-compression forged pistons.
  • SE8-517 high-lift camshaft, high-performance cam bearing and high-performance tappets.
  • Patent-protected 4.31-inch steel sleeve cylinders and new 4 5/8-inch flywheel (bore x stroke is 4.31 x 4.625).
  • New high-capacity 6.8 gram/second fuel injectors.
  • Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Extreme Air Cleaner and Screamin’ Eagle Street Cannon mufflers (each sold separately) are not required but are highly recommended for peak performance.

As for the fitment:

Two versions of the engine will be offered: For 2021-later Touring models equipped with Air/Oil-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight® engine, and for 2021-later Touring models equipped with a Twin-Cooled™ Milwaukee-Eight engine.

有趣,很高兴看到一些好处从麻的纤维y-Davidson’s race program in King of the Baggers (that’s where H-D says some of this tech comes from). While Harley’s Touring lineup has long been the bike of choice for tourists to see America from, those rental units aren’t likely to get this V-twin. But we’d love to hear about it first-hand, if any of you degenerate inmates buys this engine. Betcha your rear tire life will decrease dramatically, if that happens….
