I bought a pair of heated grips recently but I don't like the grip itself.I've searched around but can't find a clear answer.I want to replace the grip (the rubber piece only) while keeping the heating element in tact.Can anyone tell me how I can remove these without destroying the heating element?Will any stock sized grip work as a replacement or is it a different diameter?What do you use as an adhesive?Just trying to figure all of this out before I destroy a $150 set of grips.Thanks for the input.
Looked at them,tried them,don't like them.I don't want a larger grip diameter.I want to swap out the current grip for a more aggressive motocross style grip.

This is what I did.I took the throttle out of the housing,ride by wire on mine so that was the scariest bit tbh,it's all magic to me that stuff. Push a small Allen key down the grip from the end and use a scalpel to cut the grip off,slow,towards the controls and pointing slightly up.When you get to the end where the wire joins go steady. Then you've got this. The throttle side is easy enough.Just put a layer of electical tape on the wires to hold them down,take a bit of the hard plastic off the end so you can slide your new grip on easier.I put some tape on as well so it wouldn't catch on the wires.Cut a slice out the end of the new grip so the cable goes in ok.I used grip glue. Clutch side was a bit harder,not much. Cut grip off,I took the tube off and did this.3000多英里,出色的工作。The grips are Progrip 714.
Mate just peel or cut the grips off,it's that simple.Then fit whichever grips take your fancy.I used the dual density KTM jobbies and used lots of alcohol to get them on (actually sprayed the grips with alcohol to help get them on and when the alcohol evaporates the grips are firm).Heated functionality remains.
As an option you can pull ckicket bat grips over the OEM grips. Lots of colour and pattern options. $10 and they last a couple years.

On my 1190S I simply cut (carefully) the old grips and installed new ones.Heaters looked like any old type you would buy in the aftermarket.East peasy and now I can have any grips I want in 15 minutes.I did file down the end of the heated part (it has a lip) to make it easier to the new grips on.I used a mix of WD40 and hairspray.tight as you like now.
Just a FYI,(bike + grips MY 2013) I tried to install this 63002021200 on top of the heated OEM ones (once old rubber removed). Throttle side is okay,you just have to trim down that plastic lip,used WD40,firm,no problem here. Now for the clutch side...somehow the inner diameter of the left grip is smaller and won't fit on top of the heated part. The heating element does add to the diameter of the bar.Just use a throttle side grip with a larger inner diameter on each side and you should be good to go.I did.
Yep,wish I knew that when I was in the middle of the change. This would require new heated grips plus another set of dual compound grips,which I might eventually get,but I was looking for low cost options. Thank you for the answer tho!
Hi, I appreciate you're trying to improvise something at the mo,but if it fails you could do worse that get a set of the 990 heated grips which have integral heating elements,are way hotter and so long as you joint the wires from the harness to them (solder,shrink tube etc) they work a treat off of the existing onboard controller.That's what I did to my 1190 adv and was super pleased with them.I believe that the newer Oxford grips are the same design but will plug straight into the harness i.e.no soldering etc

Yep.I did the same on my 1190.Old style KTM grips wired to the OEM grip wires and it all worked great with the OEM menu controls.Like the OP,I found this setup to be much hotter than the new style OEM grips.Never used the high setting for more than a few minutes even in below freezing temps with this setup.
+1 to that.When the console says ‘Maximum' - that means ‘kin hot!! Seriously though they are way hotter than the standard 1190 heated grips
