The year 2022 has been very, very good forDucati. For the first time in the company’s history, they recorded revenue in excess of €1 billion (~$1.072 billion). That’s an increase of about 24 percent over 2021’s revenue.

Records

To go along with that, the Italian manufacturer posted a record operating profit of €109 million (~116.8 million). To put that number into perspective, 2022’s operating profit corresponds to 77 percent growth compared to 2021. As you can quickly calculate, Ducati was able to grow its profitability into the double-digit ranks.

Propping up those numbers were record motorcycle sales. 2022 saw Ducati deliver 61,562 motorcycles to riders all over the world. The unit sales increase corresponds to an approximate 3.6% sales growth.

Perhaps part of the increases can be attributed to its growing sales network. At the end of 2022, there were 821 Ducati dealerships, the highest number ever. In addition, Ducati added new countries to its markets, including Ecuador, El Salvador, Mongolia, and Brunei. The additions now give them entry into 96 individual markets.

Ducati’s future?

There have also been changes in the company that may also help them grow in the future. Starting with the 2023 season, Ducati is the sole supplier for the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship. And they say that they are “…thoroughly studying the technologies for the future of the world of motorcycling, investing and experimenting with building expertise to be ready when battery technology should allow the creation of an exciting electric road bike with the weight, performance, and range that enthusiasts expect from a Ducati.”

And finally, what’s not clear is the effect of the company’s 2022 world championships in MotoGP and WorldSBK. Is the old saw, race on Sunday, sell on Monday part of Ducati’s success?
