Crossbolt, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your best friend. I wish I had some magic words to lessen the pain; but I don't think there are any.

I lost my hack monkey and 24/7 pal to cancer 14 months ago. The loss still hurts like hell almost every day.

That's hard, dogs are such excellent creatures... our companions through our evolution... hope things go as well as they can.

Such a great pup. He even tolerated both of our dogs in his house, and frankly our dogs are kind of assholes sometimes.

    We will miss him!

When I lost Barley to cancer in 2015 after 55,000 miles of shared adventure I was devastated! We did everything together and while I've lost close friends, losing him hurt more. There's just something sopureabout a dog's love. I had two other dogs at the time. Kazoo was Momma's boy and too large for the hack anyway. Tulliver stepped up to travel with me for a couple years and we had a blast together in Utah and Colorado, but he was older and never really got into the sidecar thing. Last year two year old Glenlivet started riding with me. His first long haul was Vermont to Iowa. I was worried about him, but the lessons Barley taught me helped guide the little guy. Sometimes I swear Glenlivet is channeling his inner Barley! And in the process of shaping the pup into a long distance sidecar dog the pain of Barley's loss morphed into a profound gratitude for the gifts he brought me, gifts I will cherish for the rest of my life. May you find that same peace in time...

Very sorry to hear it. They really are family.

May not work for others, but I tend to find another good dog fairly soon. Theres scads of good dogs needing a good person. Most of mine have been rescues and pound dogs, some they werent sure were adoptable, but have all turned out from good to amazing. It doesnt take anything away from the old dog, but helps fill the huge dog shaped hole in my heart, and makes me happy to help another dog realize a good life is possible.

Rest easy Jack, your job here is done.

“He died that day because his body had served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, and then was free to leave.”

    Sorry for your loss.
From a six year old when the family dog died.

“人天生就是这样they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

    The Six-year-old continued,

“Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.”

You have my sincerest condolences in the loss of Jack. My dog Pugsley is now 12, failing a little, and I fear the day. We've logged over 80,000 miles on 4 different bikes. I fear the day! I just ordered him a new Ural just for his comfort. He's with me 24/7.
