Suzuki is recalling certain GSX1300RRQ/ZM2 (Hayabusa) motorcycles. The Japanese manufacturer says that the bike’s front brake master cylinder was manufactured with an incorrect brake fluid primary port location. As a result, the front brake lever’s travel may be excessive.
Suzuki’s Safety Recall Report
Suzuki’s Part 573 Safety Recall Reportto the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 2,552 motorcycles manufactured between March 26, 2021, and January 11, 2022, are affected.
In its 573 Safety Recall Report, Suzuki describes the cause of the recall as follows:
“An improper location of the front brake master cylinder primary port may become blocked if swelling of the primary seal cup in an adjacent location occurs. In this case, fluid pressure change caused from normal cooling of the brake fluid of the vehicle could create a negative pressure condition in the brake system. If this occurs, the front brake caliper pistons could retract creating excessive gap between the front brake pad and discs.”
“In this condition, at the next application of the front brake the front brake lever will have excessive travel as the front brake pads move to contact the front brake discs and before brake system friction begins. “
Describing the potential safety risk, Suzuki says:
“In the worst-case condition, braking distance may extend, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Notification schedule
To remedy the defect, Suzuki will make notifications in accordance with the following schedule:
- Planned Dealer Notification Date: February 27, 2023
- Planned Owner Notification Date: March 1, 2023
Suzuki Hayabusa repairs
To remedy the problem, Suzuki will replace the front brake master cylinder body with a new part at no cost. Accordingly, registered owners of affected motorcycles should take them to a Suzuki dealer, who will install a replacement part.
