Ahoy, shipmates! Today, let’s pack up our bikes on the ferry* and sail off to Nova Scotia. Canada’s Ocean Playground is a motorcycle paradise, and we’re going to take a look at what’s there!

Up top, you can seeNick Adams‘ views of his latest visit to NS. Nick was just off for a tootle to Brier Island and also visited Cape Forchu along the way, two of the most scenic places on Canada’s east coast. He also tackled the infamous Ohio Road, aka Rt. 203, but doesn’t share any footage of those worse-than-Third-World conditions. Maybe he’s saving that for a future “Worst Roads In Canada” episode?

Most of the moto visitors to NS aren’t heading to the south of the province, though. They’re heading to Cape Breton, to ride the Cabot Trail.

Here, we can see a different take, a slower alternative to the usual strafe-the-Trail ride:

Or maybe you’d like to see Cape Clear. I once attempted to reach here on a dual sport and turned back just short of my goal when I got hopelessly lost and soaked. Wanting to avoid hypothermia, I had to postpone my visit to a later date. A decade later, and I’m still waiting to return…

Whichever end of the province you’re headed to (and there’slots of great stuff in the middle as well), Nova Scotia is filled with dirt roads, single-track, paved twisties and free camping spots. If you’re looking for a spot to ride in late 2023 or next year, it’s accessible from the I95 corridor in short order—what are you waiting for?

*While many New Englanders take the Bar Harbor-Yarmouth ferry to get to Nova Scotia, there are also ferries from Saint John, New Brunswick, and of course the big boats that sail to North Sydney from the province of Newfoundland. Or you could just ride the Trans Canada or other paved or unpaved roads along the Isthmus of Chignecto, which is what I usually do, because it’s convenient and cheap.
