KTM owners 690 End R -140/80 tire choices

My nearly new 690 Enduro R needs a rear tire. OEM is a MT21 140/80. What other brands have you KTM690 owners used? I don't see many choices in this tire size. On my DRZ400s I run D606 tires and like them. I'm not a gnarly aggressive fast rider either at 63 years old with 1 year dirt experience.

I never run 140's on mine. 130's work just fine. heck, I've got a 120 on my 690 ATM.

K60 Scouts seem to be a popular choice. I am still on the MT-21's but to be honest, they perform so well I may get another set.

I'm also looking at a set of D606s to replace the stocker Pirelli MT21s. I believe 120 rear width will work just fine - just like a 100/80 will work up front, doesn't have to be 90/90-21 (or so I'm told)..

I had the TKC80 orginal didnt hold that long. After that it was a Motoz it, very good grip but dosent hold that long. Now i have the D908RR, so far really saticfied. I always have had 140/80-18 on the rear.

I would stick with the 140 in back. Even the KTM desert racers spec a 140 in back so speed ratings must play a role.

I have a set of Michelin Deserts waiting to be spooned. They are the tires used in the Dakar and are supposed to be durable. I use the cheaper Michelin T63 copy on my smaller bikes, but they don't come in a 140 and don't last as long as the MT21 anyway.

I have experience with the Continental TKC 80. Quieter than the MT21 and probably about as durable. Maybe a little better on wet tar. Not as good in mud.

Pirelli also has a Dakar tire called the Scorpion Rally. It is more expensive than the MT21, so it must be better in some way. Maybe durability.

Metzler Karoo Traveller fits, but I've never had any. Also the Kenda Big Block will work and they are a little cheaper.

I find my MT21'a are too noisy and vibey. I think I want to try a Michelin T63 or Desert up front and a Mefo Super Explorer in the back (Mefo is not a true knobby). I think I'll get a lot more mileage that way and still be good enough for the dirt/mud paths that I ride. Plus I know they will be much quieter and smoother on the highway.

The MT21 is a good performing tire, though. And they are not very expensive compared to the Michelin Desert, Pirelli Scorpion, TKC 80, Metzler or Mefo.

I keep putting MT21's on mine when i need tires... they work well in most situations

I installed a Motoz Tractionator Desert HT on my KTM 690 Enduro about 900 miles ago. I'm pretty happy with it. It's the only dirt oriented DOT knobby that I've found that seems to last a while. I paid $117 shipped and I will buy another when this one wears out. I should get about 1,500 miles out of this Motoz rear.

I had good luck with the Dunlop 606 on my WR250R, but they don't make that in a 140 width, so I got the the Motoz instead for the 690. The rear Pirelli MT21 is also great except for the fact that I wear them out quickly. I will continue to use a MT21 front.

These tires might be a little more aggressive than you're looking for, but these work well for how and where I ride. Here's the Motoz on my bike with about 250 miles on it:

Mitas E07 is a reasonably durable dual sport tire. Trying one out for the first time at the moment - seems ok

A lot depends on what sort of riding you will do but many 690 owners like theDunlop 908RR rear(only the rear; a D606 for the front is often the combo) for mixed dual-purpose riding.

I'd love to hear some firsthand reports using a D908RR on a 690 Enduro R, particularly regarding on/off road performance and tread life.

My Motoz Tractionator H/T rear has lasted marginally longer than the OEM MT21 (1,000 miles on Motoz and 700 on the Pirelli with similar tread remaining on each), but I'd like to find something that performs similarly with a longer life.

I ride about 50/50 on pavement/dirt and I will acknowledge that the 690 encourages me to flog it more than other bikes I've owned.

I'd also like to hear how the 908RR stacks up. I mainly want to find out how long they last on average. I'm sure they do well as an all around tire. Looking to get a good set that will last a little longer. The mt21 up front is about as loud as I can take. Starts getting annoying after a while on pavement, decent offroad though.

We are going on a 1000km trip, 60% off-road, in Spain next week.All 3 bikes will be KTM 690 Enduro's, one will have Michelin Deserts & Michelin Desert moussess fittted front & rear, as a known "control" tyre, the other 2 bikes will be fitted with Pirelli's supplied by UK distributor.

The other 690 will have a set of Pirelli Rally tyres , Pirelli Scorpion Rally code 1688700 size 140/80 x 18” rear and same front code174530090/90 x 21”.

They will be checked daily,photographs taken, and after the weeks riding, shipped back to their HQ for assessement.

We use the Michelin Deserts as our No.1 choice on rallies for the main fact is we know they last, and their mousses hold up to pretty much everything, the downside is they are not cheap, and wet weather grip on-road is poor, so Pirelli are looking to make inroads into this big trail bike market.The good thing is, most of their tyres are road-legal marked.

then the dealer I got them from up his price quite a bit one year and had to find another tire sub $100. I really liked it and it lasted about 2000 km with mixed riding, trails and road. They never chunked with the weight and power of the 690. Even had them on for multi day trip where the bike was loaded with gear.
I am running mitas EF-07 Majestic Enduro and have run the 18 yellow strip also. In both cases I found the rear to be loose in the corners on hard pack roads and have lost knobs. Over all they are a good tire and last around 2000km also. But for some reason I prefer the the Pirelli.
Also have had track master back there in a pinch and ok off road but do not last

Gen, that D908 looks like a winner. What kind of riding? What air pressures? The entry cost is high but if it can go 9000+ miles that's a huge plus.

So currently my 690 still has the MT21 tires and I'm running KTM recommendations for air pressure. However the original owner was running them at 10 psi for an unknown number of miles. I bought the bike with less than 2600 miles on the odo. Tire abuse I suspect has cut into their longevity. I have gotten used to the pavement performance on twisty mountain roads. I don't have any issues with them. I didn't have issues with D606 tires on my DRZ either.
When I venture into the off-road I'll know more about the MT21s. I've only ridden the MT21s on sand over hardpack so far. I'm also not a hot-rod by any stretch of the imagination. I think they are about equal to the D606s.
