So the rear brake on my GSA went completely soft - all of a sudden - while touring the Rockies with my wife. We were coming down a pass from Breckenridge going south - could have been much worse, not a tough pass. I pulled over and found my rear caliper bleeder screw missing! Just gone....never heard or saw that before. I limped to a buddy's place about 60-miles away. Found a new bleeder at NAPA on back on the road. Have had 6K, 12K, 18K services completed - I don't think brakes are bled until 24K? So was it loose from the Motherland? By the way, northern NM and south central CO was green beyond my wildest dreams.
You'll never know. Replace, refill & bleed. That's all that can be done. Reads as a nice trip otherwise. Enjoy.
Lemme tell you about the time I did hydraulic fluids on my 1150GSA, took off for a zip around test ride and found out …. Um…. At a stop light…. Um… that I forgot to tighten the bleeder on the clutch circuit. Or…. No…. Maybe I shouldn’t tell ya about that…. Never mind…
Thank goodness for NAPA. The BMW dealers would have taken at least two days to get one - one that looks just like my NAPA substitute. Colorado and NM is being loved to death - 2nd and 3rd homes on every hillside. My folks took us to CO camping every year growing up - 50 years ago. What was a wonderland, is now Disneyland.
Reminds me of the time the front brake pads fell out of my brand-new 1100 Kawasaki as I approached a set of traffic lights....
