Rok Straps vs Mosko Backcountry Cinch vs Green Chile Mondo

Hey guys.

Just picked up a Mosko Backcountry 30L and I’m looking for some opinions on the best straps to secure the bag to the bike.

What do you guys think of Rok Straps vs Mosko Backcountry Cinch vs Green Chile Mondo straps?

Is the metal cam mechanism a big benefit over plastic buckles? Does the elastic give a significant advantage over standard webbing?

Never tried the others but I love the Roc Straps. I've never had a problem with plastic buckles on them. I like the elastic. they are strong enough to pull tight so they don't give. I would think the elastic would make up for and settling or slippage of the load. A metal cam would be good, but without elastic, I could see the load loosening.

i'm curious to hear of experiences with the others.

I can see the argument for metal cams and no elastic in the name of durability, but I want to know what experiences others have had.

Depends on how heavy of a load you're carrying. If I have a small dry bag stuffed with some extra thermal layers and a flannel and maybe snacks then anything with elastic seems to work fine.

Anything that has some weight to it though can be a little bit more trouble, and in those instances I use ratchet straps. Ratchet straps are less convenient and take a little more time to load up, but they'll make your cargo completely secure and solid with the bike. For example my dry duffel bag packed with camping gear (~30lbs) will only be secured with ratchet straps.

Get anything with a metal buckle, plastic buckles break, and you don't needelastic, a duffel bag has enough give in it already.

Mosko recommends and sells Steelcore straps, but you may find dealing with Steelcore directly to be useful.

I've got rok straps and the Green Chili straps. The GC ones are much beefier both in buckle and elastic. I like the rock straps but they are def lighter duty

+1 for the Green Chile Mondo straps.

Had multiple Rok strap buckles break and got fed up with it.

I have been ver happy with the Mondo straps durability and features. While i feel the elastic isn't required i appreciate the added capability it provides.

Never had a Rok Strap buckle break, 7 + years of usage. They are my go to strap!

I have several years of using Rokstraps on bikes with zero failures. I've used in all weather and with some heavy loads.

The elastic makes all the difference! I Everything stays where I put it.

They don't seem to break down under sunlight either. I have a couple straps that I used to fasten some steel weights on a tow-behind aereator. Surprisingly, they're still holding after sitting outside 24*7*365 for the last five years.

and I use both Rok and Green Chili

the green chili are MUCH beefier, I use them when I am for instance carrying a group 27 trolling motor battery for 40 miles on the back of my bike.. did that this morning.

the rok straps are ok, for a case of beer, or a dry bag.
The roks are breaking down faster in the sun ( fading on the buckles and straps)

but that might only be a color difference thing.

either will work, and work well, replace any of them after a couple of years out in the sun to be safe.

Haven’t heard any feedback on the Mosko straps. Anyone have any experience with those?

I have them. They’re strong they’re sturdy. But for my use they are a little bit of an overkill! I’ll stick with my ROK straps. So far they have not let me down.

This is my useless post to tell you that of the 3, I've only used Rok Straps. But they're the shit, and I haven't found a reason to use anything else after 5+ years.

for many years, i'm a rok strap fan and even today.

i bought the mosko straps which i thought, was heavier in weight. anyway, all my rok straps are gone and have to use the mosko. for 8 weeks or 12k miles, they never failed me. it is solid and i trust it so much that they will be the only strap i will use for securing a duffle bag containing valuable items. the loaded bag has enough give that it never loosened up. not so much for an empty bag.

my rok straps are about 3 years old but 2 of them i broke the plastic buckle. one got stepped on and the other i pulled it out through a hole that's too small. i will still buy replacement rok straps and at the same time will never give up the mosko straps.

i also really like that the Mosko straps can be used as tow straps in an emergency. If going for a day ride i use them to tie down my tool roll which is way overkill but i used them in case i need them as tow straps. i also like that since the get pulled tight from two different directions you can really adjust where the bite point of the strap is vice the others. I also have green chili straps that are bullet proof that.

While I love my Rokstraps, I did have an issue with 2 sets I bought from different places, Cycle Gear and Cross Country BMW. I bought the same kind/size from each place. Had I kept them distinct from each other, they worked perfectly. But I mixed them up and for some reason, they wouldn't release at the buckle. Who was selling the fake Rokstraps? Who knows. Ended up destroying the Cross Country BMW set because the buckle with the release buttons wouldn't function. I can still use the Cycle Gear set.

They could have very easily just switched suppliers for buckles. It's always best to keep straps like that as sets for that very reason.

I am using the mosko moto cinch straps on my MM40. They are solid and it’s nice to be able to center the strap with the 2 cam buckles.

I use their basic cinch straps for holding soft sided cooler (along with 2 rok straps).

ROK straps

I prefer GCAG straps. I've also used Rok Straps, and they're good too. Just not as stout. The Mosko straps are on par with GCAG (in terms of ruggedness), though they have no elastic. I've found straps will loosen some as soft bag contents shift. Elastic takes up this slack, buying some time until things get too loose. Thus, I prefer GCAG or Rok over Mosko.

Whichever you use, secure the excess. I like to use a short chunk of paracord and a Canadian Jam Knot to wrap around the excess.
