Puig Windscreen in OEM is OUT!

Has anyone upgraded to a touch taller windscreen and noticed a difference?

I’m 6’4” and pretty much sit right in the turbulence off of the OEM windscreen in the highest setting. I have put the screen all the way down before but now dice when it comes to my liking.

any tried the Puig screen with extra support bracket? Was it like attaching a snow shovel to the top of the bike?

thoughts, opinions, gripes, and complaints all welcome!

I have that exact windscreen depicted, On my 2014 GSA. No support bracket, works fine for me at 5’10.

I have it, too tall for me, used it for a week and it's back in the box in my basement. Sad too, because it worked great, but I was looking through it at the height where it worked best for me.

Seats and windshields' fit is as subjective topic as it gets - it's not only your height but proportion between torso and inseam that can play important role in having buffeting or not... Then there's helmet and few other doodads all contributing one way or another...

I'm not as tall as you are but that Puig Touring didn't do it for me while quite few others swore by it so ymmv...

However, there's another gadget that may help you better than Puig - a spoiler that attaches to the top of OE or other screen and has worked well for many. It comes in 2 flavors, one attachment point (Touratech or similar) or two attachment points (MRA or similar):

I bought the Puig and bracket a few months ago and still figuring it out. It is quieter but as mentioned at the highest setting I am looking through some of the screen. It does push the turbulent air over my helmet so I am a fan. 5’ 11” with a longer torso.

6'5" here bought that lower wing above on Amazon for 35 or so. It really helps air management for me, roe 750 miles this weekend it was great. 06 GS with stock windshield, GSA height ahocks, seat concepts tall seat.

Survived 3 drops with no issue.

I ran a MRA X Screen, drilled, and it was the best thing I have ever used for a windshield.

I will always repeat myself on windshield threads.

IMHO there is no ONE screen that can do 4 seasons. Here in PA we have distinct (well we used too) seasons.

I have two shields and always have except the MRA on the 15 RT.

I can not look through a shield, period.

Never could even when I did not wear glasses. So shield up, I am looking through my glasses, visor, pin lock, windshield. Too much for me especially at night, and if I drop the sun-visor on the C3 add that to the look through list.

So spring/summer I run a Aeroflow and in fall/winter I run the stock shield. I do not need much taller to keep wind off my helmet and have clean air but wider to keep the wind off center of mass is very much appreciated.

I bought and used a support bracket even for the stock shield knowing I was moving on shield wise. It really helps even OEM IMHO.

As much as I agree with@Lead Wristthat it is super subjective, I was really surprised at how poorly the OEM shield handled airflow compared to my other bikes.. not that I expected perfection, but I expected "better" somehow... ah well, just my turn to have something about an OEM setup not work for my particular body shape, I guess!

@collin228can you share a link for that airfoil? I'm allergic to paying the Touratech Tax (f'ing outrageous what they charge... yes their stuff is good, but it's not _that_ good)

This. No matter the windshield this will improve buffeting.

You can either buy the clamp on MRA like I did or the permanent mount MRA which requires drilling holes in your windshield.

Got the same Puig screen right after buying my '14 GSA. 70,000 miles with no support bracket. 6'1".

This is all good intel for sure. When I am off road and standing I tower over the stock windscreen so I never end up adjust it...

it gets here today and I will report back with the finding. I thought the oil and tire subject was subjective. Lol. I learned windscreens are as well!

I'm not sure if you have GS or GSA but GSA's windshield out of the box (together with winglets and Shoei full face helmet) does work for me much better and I'm not a Sasquatch in either dimension...

Now, GSA screen + spoiler in any flavor, hard mounted or just clipped on on the top = the definition of windshield nirvana (for me that is)... As always ymmv...

I love my Puig.

I've been using the Puig touring for years. Love it. I cannot use the support brackets though. At 5'8" the support brackets do not let the screen squat at speed as designed by BMW and then the screen is in my line of sight. I've done 6k mile trips without the brackets with no issues. It does bounce around when passing Semis in windy conditions but I just hold the top of the shield with my left hand. Freaks the truckers out.

Ditto for me on a 2019 GS. I use the Puig during the fall and winter riding.

Yes it spooks you a bit but with a sharp bit going through at the right speed and it is no issue at all. They provide a tape on guide. It really can take the stock shield and make it a much better shield.

The MRA X is a great addition and is so super adjustable. Either system works clamps or drill mounting and I have ran both. I prefer the drilled and if you put it on your stock screen you have repurposed something that would likely just sit in a box somewhere.

I run a Aeroflow in Summer and love it.

6'3" long torso. I like a Puig racing screen in the summer. Plenty of air but no buffeting. In the winter I put on an Aeroflow medium. Blocks the wind, I'm well over the top and no buffeting. 2017.5 GS.
On the camhead I have a Givi airflow- best of both worlds.
