When old ideas are the best! A bloke was telling me today that the BSA Bantam had a measuring cup attached under the fuel tank cap for the 2 stroke oil. That is fucking genius! As the owner of a 2 banger one of the issues is carrying something to measure the oil and then put it in your backpack without getting oil everywhere. I'm going to re invent it, take the idea onto that TV show the Shark Tank and make a fortune!

Don’t know about genius but very handy

the 4mm holes in the bottom of the F800GS lower tripple let you use a small long punch/drift (or in my case 3.8mm concrete nails) to knock the lower bearing up off the stem, no cutting of lower bearing needed

Some old lawn mowers had the same sort of petrol cap. I remenber my Grand dad had a Qualcast that had it. Was probably around the same vintage as a Bantam.

A girlfriend's CZ 250 had a cup inverted under the fuel cap like that in the late 70s.

The plastic bottle that I use to pour oil into the petrol cap has measurements on the side that I can use to doublecheck:lol3

Jeez Kipo, Yamaha invented Autolube nearly 60 years ago, do we really need to carry 2 stroke oil separately nowadays?

I had anoldBMW way back when that had an on the fly adjust knob for steering bearing tension AND a thumbscrew under the twistgrip to adjust throttle friction, up to and including cruise control mode. And grease fittings. Whatever happened to grease fittings? The need for them has never gone away.

The need for grease fittings and general serviceability has taken a back seat to the need for profits.:(

FWIW the problem sometimes with grease nipples is that pumping fresh grease in is no guarantee it gets to all the moving bits. It finds the path of least resistance to ooze out somewhere and can still leave dry elements in there.

I note that modern cars mostly have no grease points any more too. Use to have to grease things like wheel bearings, unis and tie rod ends not that long ago, but no more, sealed for life, and seem to last OK too.

The fully enclosed chain case was a great idea Bultaco Matador and Metralla. Now found on some farm bikes but they don't appear on road bikes anymore. My CZ 150 had a measuring cup in the fuel cap.

I remember ADB mucking around with a fully enclosed chain guard, and even panels to cover the engine etc. Unless the brain fade has me, I think they used cardboard for the experiment!

Edit: Might have been on a mid-90s WR200?

我认为这个线程就会起飞a lot more with the amount of old blokes on here

nothing genius but the old trick of running a rag between your chain and rear sprocket to jam the rear wheel hard against your adjusters:thumb
