KLR Ramblers ride September

Hi,
I am doing some planning.
Did anyone ride the route below recently? Different maps are saying yes, but somehow I am not sure.
Also, allegedly there is a paper road/ridable track going from Te Arai Point to south over the hill and joining back to Western Boundary Road somewhere. Any info on that one? I would go out and try to ride it normally, but these are not those times.

I rode Rahukia Pakiri Block School and Ocean view. All fine. Havent ever ridden western boundary...aerial photo might tell you if its been formed or not. Normally ride round the west side of the lakes.

Same here. I have ridden the west side a million times, therefore I was looking for something new. Maps and satellite photos say all good to ride. Google street view car didn't drive through but no gate at all on the pictures. The road looks like deep sand, maybe the driver was just afraid of getting stuck in the sand.
Also, I have seen a group of riders arriving to the car park at Te Arai Point through the hill from south so it is doable just I don't know how legal/challenging it is.

I still haven't checked my lotto tickets. Unless I win, I will need to stick with the Vstrom. So far what I have seen there, it shouldn't be horrible. The motorcycles I saw coming down from the hill were something along the GS1200, Super Tenere (I clearly remember this one), and KTM 1000 Adv line. If these roads/lines are above the moderate/intermediate categories I don't want to push it.

For what it's worth there looks to be a gate on the top track, and maybe on the bottom track as well (at least a fence). The tracks look pretty "grassy" which usually means not many vehicles, so maybe just farm access or walking tracks?

His response. "You can get along the beach but the rich Americans made all the tracks unusable by removing river crossings and destroyed some of the roads"

He is a MTB rider and he has to lift his bike over gates and find places he can jump over streams. Shame.

I did scouted the area today and here is what I found.
The hill at Te Arai Point. Yes, it is accessible from the car park easily. The tracks are falling into two categories.
1) Easy-breezy. Wide easy to ride mostly grassy, gravel, or dirt. I would say 90%

2) More challenging single track, steep, sandy, or ruts. 10%@oldbeeris right on those ones, more suitable for smaller like 250cc more dirt oriented motorcycles.

All in all, the hill isn't enough big to worth bother about it and isn't a shortcut between two roads that otherwise difficult to connect.



The area between Ocean View Rd and the sea is sadly a "standard" New Zealand forestry area. Purposefully and systematically destroyed access points, gates, and signs prohibiting entry.

Otherwise, there are damn fine roads inside.

I will put together the route for the September ride soon (a couple of weeks?) and post it.

Bloody forestry accessI learnt to ride all the challenging stuff in the forestry areas as a kid, I still can't believe all that land now has no access (not to mention most of my hunting).
