Ok guys. Recently I purchased a new to me 2014 GSA and I'm just now learning the bike. I have a few questions (if I may) in regards to some minor issues I noticed the bike has.

The first thing is the BMW Aluminum cases. One of the cover pins on the larger box (left side) the wire attaches to appears to be stripped out. The metal loop on the wire end easily comes off and doesn't snap into place like the other side's wire end loop does. It also appears to be missing the little rubber oring as well. Does anyone know what the part numbers are to replace the stud and/or the wire and oring on the BMW aluminum cases. They aren't vario. Also, isthe stud replaceable and what tool is needed to replace it? I have torx keys used for my jeep, but the BMW's stud seems to fall in between 2 of the sizes.

Second, the lock on the navigation prep was very dry (key stuck inside it). The lock was sticking so much it actually came out of the plastic navigation box when I tried to pull the key out and was stuck on the end of the key. Is it just manufactured very poorly? I did hit it with graphite spray since then, but noticed there is still a lot of friction on that and most of the other locks; including the ignition. Is that normal? I don't think the lock should come out with the key though.

Lastly, the center stand appears to be boogered up (and rusty) from being hit with road debris. Mostly It's the crossmember. What are some of the best solutions to fix that?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    1. Can't help, I never had factory bags,
    2. Clean and lube all the locks, they should loosen up. Put the GPS lock back in after cleaning and lubing it, make sure the key goes in and out easily.
    3. Normal, sand, hit with rust inhibitor and paint with a decent quality paint. Then, if so inclined, wrap in clear hellicopter tape.

    Congrats on the new bike.

The key may seem stuck if the rear latch isn’t released on the Nav.

Good point, I have done that a couple of times. I always forget since I rarely take the GPS off.

You can check Max BMW online parts for spare parts for side/top cases (all the way down, under 77 accessories).https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=56208&rnd=07242017

    - No particular hardware is listed separately but all corners and rest of the case do come with associated hardware... You may need better Torx set of bits that has all of them as BMWs are full of torx head screws...

    - if your GPS lock cylinder came out, you may be missing a "locking tab/blade" which should prevent lock cylinder from coming out. Every lock cylinder on GS/A has that tab - your dealer may have a spare tab you could get for free...

    - You can remove Center stand and treat it to a good clean-up and repaint if it's that nasty...

Guys, thanks for all the wonderful replies. It seems both side cases are missing nuts that go over the studs and little rubber oring. Just noticed the top case has a nut but the side cases do not. I don't see that nut in the 77_0636 - SINGLE PARTS, ALUMINUM CASE diagram. Anyone know where to get it and if the stud does come out? I don't see the stud in the diagram either.

Thanks for the helicopter tape idea. I didn't think of that. Just bought some for the mountain bike and have a little extra.

I'll check on the locking tab blade. Anyone know what that looks like?

Thanks for all of the help!

It's one of the lil' guys in the pic next to the cylinder... Every cylinder has one locking tab, last one in the row and furthest from the key hole which prevents cylinder from coming out... It's spring loaded and when you need to get the cyl out, you'd compress the spring get that tab in and then remove the cylinder...

Congrats on the 'new' bike, and welcome to the Forum. I have a '14 GS/A and absolutely love it. Best bike I've ever owned, other than when I am forced to move it around under my power (pushing) , rather than it's own.

If you come from a dirt biking background, you might smack your shin into the back of the cylinder head pretty good once or twice, as I am not used to the cylinders / heads being out there. I apparently do that more frequently and with much more force than ever imagined when I get a little slip while turning or in deep sand and a little head shake or lean is initiated. Not that a GS/A should be routinely 'flat tracked' anyway, I suppose. My first Boxer powered BMW, so just one of those few little oddities to learn that are commonplace with these particular machines.

On to the point: I have a full lock cylinder set that I would be willing to give you as a welcome aboard gift. It came with my top box, and I never installed it. Doubt I ever will, which may be a bit odd. But it is what it is. The baggy appears to have all the components shown in the photo posted above.
Shoot me a PM with your address, and I will mail it off to you, Gratis.

Hope you enjoy the machine and the community here for a good long while.

Thanks for the offer. The locks aren't that bad, just a little tight. Might try some graphite powder if the spray doesn't have the proper effect.

只是好奇。你穿MX靴子或冒险薄熙来新利18苹果ots on your bike? Maybe the MX boots would help with hitting your shins on the engine bars. I heard that people really need the MX boots instead of the adventure boots because ankles are broken a lot easier wearing the adventure boots. Not sure if that is true.

Yeah the '14 is an awesome bike. In 2013 I saw the first year liquid cooled bike at a dealership and it became my dream bike. Waited all these years to pull the trigger and basically got the dream bike for half price.
