I bought 4 quarts of Castrol 10-40 regular dino motorcycle oil on special for $ 2 a quart. I currently have 5000 km on my synthetic oil and will be putting my bike away for the season. My plan is to change the oil and put the regular fresh dino oil in, ride a bit with it in spring, then do a proper synthetic oil change with filter.

You guys think that's ok? Can these bikes run regular oil?

With used oil analysis people are getting way over 6000 on synthetic oil so there is no good reason to change it at 5000.
I doubt it would make any difference but if it does it would affect the Clutch or the Cat. Two very expensive parts so try it and let us know if it works out for you.
Why don't you put the Dino oil in an old car or gift it to a friend at Xmas?

Good idea, after all it just needs to be slippery.
Go with the lowest octane off brand fuel you find also.
When you need tires go to E-Bay, cheap Chinese rim protectors will serve you well!

Hmm, for the price of a beer, let's see how it works with a wet clutch? I like it!

What's the API rating on those quarts, SN?

Interesting responses. Regular dino car oil is not going to kill your bike, but it can be hard on the wet clutch.

You have some miles/km left on that oil change. Why bother? What is the next oil change according to your documented intervals? Saving money on wasting oil is still wasting.

我会毫不犹豫地用恐龙油但不会go to max distance between oil changes on it like I would with synthetic. What does the manual say?

You'd have a hard time finding anyone who had an engine failure because of dino v. synthetic on appropriate oil change intervals.

    Don't sweat the small stuff:-)

It's not regular dino car oil, it's Castrol motorcycle specific 10w40 oil with JASA 2 rating etc.

的reason I want to change my oil is because that oil in there was changed November 2018 before I put the bike away last season. I wasn't able to ride much this year so it only has 5000 km on it. At this point, the oil in the bike is a year old. If I start riding in April of next year the oil will be almost 1.5 years old in there, Ill definitely change it then, but heard it's not good to store the bike for 5 months with old oil? The oil in there now is Amsoil 10w40.

You should try a 5W40 next year to see if the difference to the 10W40 makes it shift or run any better. I don't think Amsoil makes 5W40 so you would have to try something else like Motul or Castrol.

Any reason you didn't use 5 w - 40w specd by the manufacturer for that engine??

If you are going to change your oil now and again in the spring, why not just put the proper synthetic oil in now and skip the second change and save the price of a second oil filter as well? There I saved you twenty bucks.

I'm not replacing the filter yet, just draining old oil and putting in this one I got on sale for the winter only. Spring time comes around Ill do a full oil change with synthetic and new filter. Good idea? $ 8 will cost me protection for the winter.

One local BMW dealer here uses 10w40 in all the bikes for official service. I don't think there should be an issue, 10 vs 5 is cold starting weight. I don't find any difference in shifting vs 5w, shifts great and operates smooth :)

What do you think will happen if you use 10w40 vs 5w40?
