Thanks for the heads up. Where is this applicable?

Good to know. Time to (finally) break out the sport bikes.

The entire state goes to the Green dot system during hunting season. Green dot good to go. Yellow sign closed. No sign good luck. Private land managers have their own signs. National forest may or may not follow this. Just because the gate is open doesn't mean the road is. Every year one of us gets talked to or worse.

MH NF needs the Green Dot Red Dot system marked on the roads. I could mark them allllll for one billionth the cost of the silly MVUM we can't (won't) read. On the other hand, if they look open and without any enforcement.....now they're mostly kinda mostly open....

    Makes sense, thank you.

Though one has to wonder about hunting in or near an OHV area. I can't imagine it being a great place to hunt... Last year in late September and October, I had probably a dozen trucks ask me riding out in Tillamook if I'd seen any deer or elk. Ha!

Had a big cow elk run across in front of me on WABDR this weekend, thankfully was ~100ft ahead as I was cruising at about 50+ on some sweet gravel/dirt!

On Aug 21 on the Lewiston hill a guy on a Harley hit an elk. Barren cheat grass hill.

Commuting on the Palouse from Pullman one moonnlit Sept night I saw a black spot in a Stubblefield. I turned the bike around and lit up a big bull moose at about 60 yards. He started to trot off. By the time he got to 100 yards he was looking back a lot. He turned around and started trotting back, gaining speed. By the time he got to 40 yards and was nearly at full run l left. He had obviously figured out I was smaller and he was going to kick my ass.

You wouldn't believe how many hunters are up in the Nestucca OHV area. Then they get pissed when you come flying down a trail they are sitting and watching for animals.

    Oh, I believe it.

While not much of a hunter, I certainly appreciate the activity, the thrill, the ritual, and filling the freezer. The thing is... there are limited places for us to ride out motorbikes and there are millions of acres where they can hunt and we can't ride.

I try to be as friendly as I can with hunters.

+1 - There are plenty of places for them to hunt in that area, if they choose to hunt from an OHV trail and setup a stand near a trail, that's their fault for making bad decisions.

Also, not every part of Oregon uses the Green Dot system, so don't depend on that.

Yep i hunt but i dont feel sympathy for hunters in OHV areas they have 20x the area to recreate we only have a tiny slice to play within.

Had a similiar experience east of Bend where the Mule Deer winter. A buddy and I were riding dirt bikes and I decided to show him a mass deer gathering. We stopped on the road a good 500 yards from this group of hundreds of Muleys. We shut the bikes off and were just watching the herd. After a few minutes one of the big Does started staring at us. Pretty soon she started walking towards us by herself. Then her ears went flat and she started picking up speed. it was obvious she had a plan that we probably wouldn't enjoy. We started up the bikes and moved down the road a ways. She changed course toward us. We moved again. Now she had made it to the road we were on and was still at full speed, head down and ears flat. We fired up and left the area. I told my buddy it was because he smelled funny.
