Have put 5 litres of old petrol in my XT660r(mixed up two canisters). It ran for a couple of hundred yards and then ground to a halt. I have syphoned the tank and I intend putting an additive and fresh super unleaded in to. Really dont want to have to access the fuel filter as I hear it's a pain and quite a delicate operation. Anyone with any experience of this on the XT. Any help appreciated.

problem solved. It wasn't bad fuel(well actually it was). I had mistakenly put the mixture for my chainsaw(2 stroke). Clean out by my local friendly mechanic had it running in no time.:clap

I'm kind of surprised it didn't run.

There are even people out there who swear routinely running 2-stroke oil in a 4 stroke is a good thing.

Of course, there are people who run car tires on their motorcycle, so...

In desperation, I once put 2 stroke premix in a KLR. It smoked a little, but ran fine and got me 15-20mi. to the next fuel stop.

It was bad fuel that happened to be premix.

Glad all is well. Be sure and don't put diesel fuel in by mistake. A friend somehow did it at a gas station and it destroyed the engine in his KTM 530.
We never learned if he just grabbed the wrong handle or it the dealer had been responsible.
