This is going to be Sketchy I have a feeling. SC to Nova Scotia

Day 1

I left my house about 10:30 am anxiously awaiting 12:00 when Phish Radio goes on Satellite radio full time. What a great way to start a trip! I headed for Edgefield S.C. to help put on the State Turkey calling contest. Pretty uneventful ride besides Phish Radio, it is always sad to leave my wife and dog, but travel I must. So I proceed on. Anyways my wife will meet me tonight then again in a few days to ride on the boat with me from Florida to N.Y.


I arrived in Edgefield that evening and we set up for the calling contest then shot sporting Clay's at the National Turkey Federation course.


拍摄后我去我在。停留期间g for the night and took a back road that has some good curves. The next road I was going to go down ended up being a dirt/sand mix that was just graded. I had absolutely no traction and it was so slick. I paddled off the sandy dirt road and back onto the asphalt. I have no problems taking my RT off road to places that some GS's will never go, but sand that is that deep with no traction I just won't risk blowing my knee out. Sorry, I did not think to take a picture. I will try and remember to take pictures.

Day 2

We had the turkey calling competition and I left after lunch about 1 Pm and headed to Florida. I just took the fastest route that was some primary roads then onto the interstate. I was just trying to make time and get to my Dad's house. I have some pants that are great for fall and spring weather, but not great for when it is hot. The reason that I am using them VS my summer pants are for two reasons, the first being that they have so much more protection and the second being it is going to be pretty cool up north.
Thankfully, the traffic was moving super fast so I just went with the traffic and I made very good time. I stopped and got steaks for my Dad and his wife for Fathers day. Mileage 328 mi.


Day 3

Father's Day I did not ride but I did get to spend father's day with my Dad so that was very special.

Day 4

I am sitting here on my dad's front porch listening to the wolves howl and lions roar (there is a big cat preserve behind him). I am in awe at the beauty of the sound they make especially the lions roaring. I can only imagine what Africa will be like under the stars and listening to the animals! Getting eaten by them could be a bad side effect though, but worth the risk in my opinion (if you live in Africa and need someone to ride and camp with you for a few days let me know). Going to Africa to ride offroad and camp is a life dream of mine.

I looked over my bike to make sure that all was good with it, everything looked good. I packed and left about 8:30am to go to see some friends that I met in Colorado on my last trip. I get on the road and the excitement started to kick in. For some reason I have not been overly excited about the trip, I think this trip happened so fast and changed so much that I did not have any real time to do any more than just a little planning but not a lot.

They have a killer view from their house, we sat on the back porch for a while overlooking the ocean with their two dogs Sage and Shaman. Even their dogs are the most precious dogs. We went for a walk on the beach with the pups and then went to their restaurant High Tides at Snack Jack in Flagler beach. Now let me tell you something it was beyond good, and they have motorcycle parking next to the valet parking stand so you do not have to worry too much at all about anyone messing with your bike. The smoked fish dip is out of this world good and the Tuna Ruben was the best Tuna I have had in my life, the food was all perfection. I begrudgingly had to leave Mike and Gail to head to the boat to load my scooter at 4:30pm.


I was to be at the marina at 6pm to load my bike, I arrived with 1 min to spare. Up until this part of the trip it had all been going pretty smooth, well it was about to get sketchy. Eric (my Uncle who normally rides with me) and ski boat Steve meet me in the marina parking lot. We unloaded my top bag and food bag into a cart and I proceeded to ride my scooter down the aluminum ramp, then onto the dock. Well, it happened to be almost low tide and it was sketchy as all get out riding down an aluminum ramp. Once I got down the ramp I had to make a sharp turn on the dock, if you did not know a BMW RT does not have the greatest turning radius. I made the turn after going backward than forwards a few times then I was all set. All that I could think of was the guy riding the FJR and getting the side bag caught and riding it into the drink(riding off the dock). The dock may look big and spacious but when you are riding a large scooter down it with the dock boxes, hoses, lines, and everything else make it pretty small. I made it to the end of the dock where the boat was I was pretty stoked that we did not go for a swim( I know my scooter can't swim, but swimming with, riding boots, pants, gloves, and helmet could of presented a challenge). Glad we did not get wet.


About the time that I arrived at the end of the dock a boat was pulling in, all was looking good and then it went south for them. The owner was driving the boat and should not of even been allowed to drive a golf cart from the way he was trying to dock his boat. I am guessing it was about a 60-65’ boat. There was no wind and no current, he was trying to dock port side. He proceeded to try about 5 times to drive his boat to the dock (it was the end of the dock and not having to go into a slip). We were watching and thinking that he was on one motor with no bow thrusters. I still have no idea how he did this but he backed his boat into the dock and destroyed the back railing and platform, then he threw his stern line to the dock hands and told them to tie to the cleat and then proceded to try and dock his boat. It was like watching a rat with its tail in a trap trying to get out. About 10 min and 10-20 thousand dollars of damage later he decided to use his bow thrusters. Well, I am not a captain, but I think I could do much better than he did. It was pretty fun to watch. None of the videos were close enough to encapsulate the absolute damage and grandeur of him not being able to run his boat. Lesson learned, never let the owner run the boat near anything he can hit.

Well, now that the fun and terror of watching him dock his boat are over I get to start working on getting my RT on top of the boat I am going to be on. Now that I am on the dock looking up at the top deck I am questioning the decisions in my life that have brought me and my beloved scooter onto this dock. Until this moment I did not know how much I loved me ole scooter, the great memories that we have had together started flooding in, I thought of the great curvy roads in the Blue Ridge mountains we love that we call home, us doing our first Iron Butt together, all the nights camping, the 100’s of miles of dirt she had been on, of and her watching me as I lay scared to death in Colorado camping when I tried to punch a bear in the face ( I will tell this story later). All I could think was this may be one of the most sketchy things I have ever done.


我们基于“增大化现实”技术e going to lift my bike onto the boat with the davit and put it on the top deck. I just hope she does not get seasick. Well after much debate of where to put my soft loops I found places that seemed to be good. Now I just had to get the lines all the same length so that it would lift level and not lopsided. When we started to lift I can not describe the knot that I had in my stomach! We lifted her up and it was about 3” too low from being able to clear the top trail. So back down she went and I repositioned the webbing and back up she went. The second time she cleared by about 6 inches. We placed her on the top deck on top of a piece of plywood and then secured her with cam and ratchet straps. Also, we left the davit attached so that it could not tip over (later this will be needed I am sure). Now the real work started. I wrapped it in saran wrap to keep the salt water off of it her. This took three people almost 2 hours to wrap. I plan on unwrapping it in Wrightsville beach and re-wrapping it. Tomorrow we embark on the first leg of my Journey.



I am planning on taking the boat to Port Jefferson and then unloading my bike there, from there I am going to ride to the ferry and take it to Connecticut and then ride to Nova Scotia. So you may ask why would you want to ride to Nova Scotia? Well for a few reasons, #1 when I was googling Canada birds I saw that they have Puffins and Cape Brenton seems to be the place to see them, #2 they have one of the top roads in the world to ride “Cabot Trail”, #3 there is a small chance that I will be able to see the Northern Lights (life bucket list item). #4 I have a free ride upon a sweet boat and I get to spend time with my wife and uncle on the way up.

Well, let's get settled in on the boat and get ready for this new adventure.

I am behind on the ride report due to lack of internet while at sea and I have time to type.
I am a few days behind on getting stuff posted and I am trying to catch up, adding the pictures is a learning curve for me. I am not going to post a lot about the trip on the boat due to this is not the riding part, however, it is all still part of the adventure.

Day 5

Today we are going from Port Canaveral to Jacksonville Fl. We have my cousin Skyler and ski Boat Steve on the boat for a few days. Seas were pretty good, nice short trip. The saran wrap started to come undone but no salt was getting to the scooter so I left it. Great day, good seas and good people. The scooter is holding very good, a little more wrap came off today but still holding strong. We had a few good waves and the scooter was as steady as a rock.


Day 6

Hot Stuff (my wife) arrived to marina about 2am, by the time we took the rental car and got back to the boat it was about 4am, we started to push off the dock about 5:15am, not much sleep.

Seas were good and pretty smooth. We had following seas and the wind to our back. Liza a good friend lives in Charleston and she came to the boat and hung out with us for a few hours. It was great to see her. Other than the lack of sleep it is a good trip.

Day 7

We left Charleston S.C. heading to Wrightsville beach. Had a patch that the wind and seas picked up for a little while but nothing bad. A little more saran wrap came off, no salt under the plastic so I am happy. We arrived and friends and family started coming to the boat and there ended up being a little party. There was a beautiful double rainbow. Went to be about 2:30 am, woke up about 6:30, I don't think I am ever going to get caught up on sleep on this trip.





Day 8

Skyler and Steve left this morning about 6:30. We moved to Sea Path Yacht Club (my favorite marina). The head in the VIP the room that we were staying in we not working properly so I went to fix it. After 3 trips to the engine room for tools, I decided to just get the tool roll off of my RT, it was crazy that on a 10 million dollar boat I ended up using the tools on my scooter to fix the head. We fueled the boat 1,500 gallons of fuel, Took a few hours to fuel at 17 gpm. I decided to take the Saran Wrap off my bike, clean it, put my Iron Butt Plate on that came the day before Hot stuff left), and re-wrapped it. My bike is holding up super well and is not getting seasick or corroding thankfully. We ended up getting to stay at Sea Path for the night. What a beautiful place and the people are the best. We had some friends on the boat again tonight and then to bed.







Day 9

We had to be off the dock by 7 am so it was up about 6 am. We moved out and anchored for a few hours then a spot became available for us at the dock, so back to the dock we went. Not to long after we got back to the dock I called Uncle David and got to hang out with him for most of the day. It is crazy how strong some of the genetics are on the Chalmers side of the family. I think getting to spend time with uncle David is the highlight of my trip so far. On the way to the boat we picked up his son Tommy. Tommy and his wife ended up getting to go with us on a little sunset booze cruise. It was great to hang out with Tommy and his wife. We had a few other people on the boat as well. The sunset we a stellar pink that faded to brilliant orange.

Day 10

The sketchiness reached an entirely new level today, like to the point I was shocked that something this sketchy happened and it was not my idea nor did I instigate it. In fact it was past the point that I was comfortable with it, but in my true spirit, I went along with it. Why you ask? The way I look at it is that nothing fun happens if you are doing the normal boring mundane crap.

We sadly left our friends and family at Wrightsville beach and continued our trek north to Beaufort NC. Roy and Christie decided that they were going to take their boat out and meet us in the ocean and go with us to Beaufort towing their boat behind ours. The forecast was for 2’ every 6-8 second. There was a storm that was forming behind us that was not on the radar. Roy and Christie left their house and meet us a few miles out. By this time the wind started to blow a little harder than predicted and the waves had really started to pick up. They were larger than forecasted and very choppy and sharp. My wife thought they were great for sleeping, the worse the seas are the more she enjoys them. By the time they meet us out in the ocean the waves had really started to pick up. I am not sure what they were but they were more than 2’ every 6-8. There was enough spray that while my scooter was on the lookout up on top of the top deck she was getting some salt spray, I am so glad that I re-wrapped her.

Well it came time to get them over onto our boat. I am a pretty proficient swimmer and I am a swift water rescue tech and I wouldn't of done this transfer, much less at 70 years old! Well Christie is a trooper and after a lot of work we had both boats in position and had a sort of calm spot in between waves, swells and wind chop we got her onto the boat. I have no idea how I did not end up in the ocean or anyone else. But we did it, then it was Roys turn and he jumped off the bow of his boat onto ours. All that I know is that I want to have the same sense of adventure and zeal of life that Roy and Christie do when I am their age (if I somehow live that long). I have an entirely new respect for our military who do this in rough seas onto hostile boats.

I truly thought she was going to flip over or take a nosedive and sink. After about 15 min I was starting to get comfortable with it when the line broke. Well that was not good. So we had to go back and figure out how we were not going to do a transfer to a boat that was not under way in seas that had picked up a little more. At this time I am not worried about my bike, well not much at least. I am just worried about the safety of the people on our boat. After a lot of work we finally positioned out boat next to his and the waves were synchronized so that he could jump from one boat to the other. He made it over and I don't have a clue how he made it. At this point I am done with sketchiness and youthful shenanigans by people 30-40 years older than me! I go to take a peek up top at my scooter and there she was moving a little for the first time on the trip. Not to much but just enough to make me super uncomfortable, I rechecked the straps and prayed for the best.


The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful besides the seas being about the same, oh I took a glorious nap and the boat rocking made me think that I was back in my Blue Ridge mountains flipping my bike through the corners, then I realized that I was still on the boat trying to make it to where my ride would really start. I hope that the roads up north and in Canada are as good as the ones in the dream I just had.


We made it to Beaufort NC and across from us there was an island that has wild horses. It was so cool to see the wild horses walk along the shore grazing and then disappear into the woods. I wonder how many there are? I am not a horse guy but it was beautiful to watch them with the water next to them. I love how our world never stops giving us beautiful little surprises like that. The pure peaceful tranquility of the horses and Beaufort were a stark difference from the ocean and the transfers we had earlier. It was as if it was two different lives in just a few hours.


When I got off the boat to walk around for a few the boat had stopped rocking a few days ago but the earth is rocking something fierce, I almost got seasick on land, is that called land sick? I hope that the earth stops rocking soon after I get off the boat or I may have some technical difficulties riding.

Day 11

Beaufort NC to Rudy inlet Virginia Beach

我们拿出大约5:15,the sunrise was the best of the trip so far. The scooter is safe and secure and salt is not getting under the Saran wrap. I am happy with my wrapping job. Lots of blue tape is the trick to keeping the wrap from unsticking.

About 3 miles out from the marina we saw 3 hovercrafts on the beach and had fighter jets flying over head. Not to get CSM but I love the freedom the jets have! All of a sudden sand erupts from one of the hovercrafts and it starts to move. I went down below and got my camera. I was able to take a few pictures of them in the ocean. I have never seen them in person much less getting to see them do maneuvers. I was truly amazed by the sheer power and agility they have.




I went to bed that night listening to the fighter jets doing maneuvers what seemed like almost on the deck of the boat thinking about the freedom that we have because of our men and women who selflessly sacrifice their time and families so that we can enjoy riding motorcycles and camping. To all the men and women who are serving and who have served thank you for all of your sacrifices so that I can have the freedom to enjoy America and my life. I truly slept soundly knowing that I was safe and secure. God Bless America, oh how I love you.





Day 12

Virginia Beach to Cape May, New Jersey.

美好的一天在水面上,伟大的海洋。我们做了很好的time. I looked over the scooter pretty well and hole has opened up in the from near the radiators in the seran wrap. I will keep an eye on this and the weather. I am not sure what I am going to do about it. I only have three or so more days on the boat until my RT gets to fly in the air and see the great views hanging from a davit, I get to have my stomach in a knot until she is safe and secure on the dock, and then I get to ride her up the dock then to solid land. I hope that she does not get seasick on land like I am starting to.

Day 13

Cape May, New Jersey to Sandy Hook NJ We have a Whale Tail (and not one on a trashy girl)


The seas were super calm today. And the sunrise was beautiful. There is something calming about seeing the sun rise over the calm ocean. We passed the Jersey shores and Atlantic city.

About 2 min after, I could start to see the outline of NYC through the smog. However, while the water was still pretty I spotted a sea turtle. While I was watching the sea turtle out of the corner of my eye I saw something bubbling and causing a commotion. All of a sudden the water erupted and there was a whale. This was my first time seeing a whale that I knew for a fact that it was a whale. I have had a few times that I was pretty sure that I saw a whale, but this time there was no mistaking. I ran down and told the others on the boat that there was a whale. My uncle turned the boat around and we went to about the spot that I saw the whale and waited for about 3 min and then he appeared again but this time about 70 yards off of our bow. He got a little closer to us and he blew and it was incredible to be able to not only see it but to also hear it. I am glad that he was not close enough for me to get whale snot on my camera, I have been told it reeks! He went below and then he reappeared and he made a dive and we did not get to see him again. However, I did get a great whale tale picture. I am pretty sure it was a Right Whale.

About 30 min after the whale excitement the city was starting to come into good view, I live out in the country and I do not know how people live in NYC with the overwhelming noise, smog, and congestion. The water became so dirty and littered with trash that I did not ever want the water to touch me. NYC is such a dirty city. I am amazed that people want to gripe and complain about the environmental impacts of dirt bikes, but they do not care about the environmental impacts of NYC. Just the noise pollution of NYC alone is overwhelming, but then when you look at the brown that surrounds the city in the air and the impact they have one the water it is truly amazing. I am enjoying seeing the beauty of the city lights as I am anchored out with my scooter a few feet from me on the boat.


I started to make some reservations and plan my route. I am going to spend at least one night in Acadia National park. I may have to swing by and see David Rockafeller and see if he has two trees that I can hang my hammock from since I am going to be just across from his house. I just need two trees.


We took the tender out for a cruise (the boat not the app), I was blown away at the grass that some of the people have. It is perfect and on a steep hill. When we got back I was super relieved that no one stole the ole scooter. She was just sitting there staring at the city begging me to take her to the mountains and not to the congested city with bad roads. I am starting to get excited to get on her and twist the throttle and see some new places. I am so excited about this adventure. My goals for the trip are 1. Eat lobster over a campfire cooking it on my new adjusta fork. Thank you @joemotorcross 2. See some cool places.


Well that is all for tonight. Tomorrow we go through the Big city and then to port Jefferson and from there I will start my big excursion. I am excited to see where life leads me in the next few weeks. I hope that my shoulder, knee, and retard leg all hold up. Oh and I am looking into adding Greenland, I ask Hot stuff about just turning this into a around the word and she shot that down pretty hard.

One of the worst storms I've ridden through was in Edgefield. I was heading from Greenville to Augusta and just missed a tornado! Looking forward to seeing you cook a lobster on a fork!

I am glad that you missed the tornado, there is some serious good riding between Greenville and Augusta especially if you like dirt.

Day 14

今天早上我坐在这里欣赏beauty of the boat I am on it hit me. I am going to go from living on a boat that is truly stunning and seeing the east coast from the Sea, to living out of my hammock in the woods riding my motorcycle like a homeless person as my wife says. As much as I enjoy the ocean and being on the boat I can not wait to get on my scooter and feel the warm embrace of my campfire and the pure peacefulness of sleeping in my hammock. This has been a truly special trip to be able to combine riding motorcycles and being on a boat. I am ready for the motorcycle riding to begin in full swing!


我们基于“增大化现实”技术e getting a late start so I am sitting here editing pictures, I decided to bring my 200-500 lens so that I could take bird pictures and it is amazing how hard it is to get good pictures of birds with their eyes in focus on a moving boat handheld. I do not know that my laptop screen is calibrated so I am sorry if the pictures end up being developed a little off. Lesson learned is to color calibrate the laptop screen before going on a trip. Trying to type a ride report and edit pictures is a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. I am interested to see how it goes when I get on the bike camping. I have an entire new respect for the guys like@AaronSand @Joemotorcross. I am enjoying the process and it is a learning curve so we will see.


We left Sandy Hook and headed to NYC and passed some cool little lighthouses in the water. We went through NYC and got to visit Lady Liberty, she always amazes me. Then we continued through and starting about the Brooklyn Bridge I started to run the boat for a while. I am shocked at how the boats coming through have no regard for their wake. I was truly glad that my scooter was on a boat and that I was not having to ride in the congestion. It is amazing how different NYC looks from the water than from land.

We continued on to Port Jefferson and tied out to a ball. What a pretty place. We are going to unload the scooter in the morning. I am excited to see how she fared. I may go and unwrap her tonight and give her some TLC and a good rub down. I can't wait to see her in all of her beauty all cleaned up ready to head up the coast.


I try to be pretty flexible when I go for rides. I like to have some places that I want to go and then go where people tell me and what looks fun. Well, all of my plans may change quickly and in a hurry. I am trying to get a Sunday miracle for Phish in Chicago. I was planning on by passing Chicago due to cities are not my thing but you know what you never wanna miss a Sunday show. Heck I would go for a Sat miracle. So if you or someone you know has a ticket let me know!!


So the plan for now is to unload the boat in the morning and then clean the boat during the day. Then Sat morning I am going to ride up to Orient Point NY and Take a Ferry to New London CT. Then head to the white mountains and hit some twisties, camp then head to Acadia National park and see what there is to see there and I have a reservation for a campsite Sunday night. From there I will start to head up the coast for a ways then up to Nova Scotia.

Day 15

我们基于“增大化现实”技术e going to unload the scooter this morning. So with much conjecture, I started to unwrap her. As I started the arduous process I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. I had heard from others who had done this that they had a constant battle with condensation and keeping their bike dry. I kept a good eye on here throughout the trip and never had the condensation build up that I was expecting to have. As I started to unwrap more and more I did the good ole swipe your finger across the bike and lick it to check for salt (that is the homeschooled way to do an accurate science experiment. I won the school-wide science fair with that little trick). On the top of the bike, I did not find any, and on down towards the bottom it was only a faint hint of salt. Most of the rotors that I have seen after spending 11 days on a boat were very rusted, mine are only a little and so far I have not found signs of corrosion other than that. I am going to give her a good bath when the others wake up. I do not want to wake them up making water.


Here is what I learned wrapping her in case you are ever going to put your scooter on a boat. Before I got on the boat I used a spray wax (Driven to Perfection spray shine) all over my bike and only wiped off the major excess, I did not polish or try to get it off I wanted it to leave a coating on her. Commercial saran wrap that is on a big stick was used. The first time that I wrapped it it took 3 people about 1.5 hrs. There were towels in it to protect my bike that you can see in the pictures. I wanted to use my cover but due to using the davit to hold the bike that was not an option.

When I rewrapped her I washed her off and used 303 speed detailer to add an extra layer of protection. Then my wife helped me to rewrap the good ole offroading camping RT. This time I did a few things different. I used blue tape to hold the wrap inplace, then I did at least three layers going multiple directions over the entire bike. The center stand was left a little exposed but not the bottom of the bike. The very back on the rear tire was not covered and I think this helped with letting the air move. I thought there was a hole near the front rt radiator but was completely wrapped. All of the places that the straps went to the bike I wrapped then super tight so that salt could not get up to the bike.

If I had to do it over I would use more towels. I would wrap the front and rear tire with a towel then saran wrap it. I would also do the windshield, instrument cluster, and rear tire. I believe that moisture migrated to the towels and that is why I did not have a salt build up. If I was going to have it any longer or have a few days of bad seas I would spray it with Pam cooking spray.

I got her cleaned up good and I am impressed with it all. I am overly excited to leave in the morning. However I am jealous of my wife that she is going to get to see my dogs Tilley and Bella, I guess that you have to sacrifice something to travel.


We unloaded the scooter onto a fixed dock in Port Jefferson. The look that you get from people unloading a motorcycle that big off a yacht is pretty funny. All went smoothly including riding up the dock. I think riding my scooter up a dock has got to be one of the most fun things to do. The marina was super cool about my bike and they even let me put it under a covered area that had a camera on it for the night.

Day 16

I am laying in my hammock typing this while listening to the thunder and it is starting to rain as I type this. We will see if my Geza Gear bike cover is truly waterproof like they say.

I had mixed emotions about leaving to head farther up north. It has been super fun to hang out with Hot Stuff for the last however long it has been that she has been on the boat. I was ready to leave the boat and all its glory, marble showers, heated towels, and getting rocked to sleep every night by the ocean and listening to the water lap up the hull of the boat and all that goes with it. But ride I must. I am going from a luxury yacht to a dirt floor ( well a hammock). The bad thing is I am excited about the dirt floor and hammock.

I rode from Port Jefferson to Orient Point. I was truly impressed with how much farmland there is on Long Island. It is such a beautiful place. It is hard to believe that NYC is so close. I took the ferry to New London Ct. to Providence Ri. While I was in Providence trying to find a national park the sketchy map program that I was using (google maps) took me into the hood. I was doing rolling stops so that I would not have to stop and then all of a sudden a cop comes out of nowhere and stops me and was super nice and asked if I was lost. I told him where I was trying to go and google maps was trying to get me killed. He laughed and escorted me to the main road. Thank you Mr. Officer. From Providence I went to Quincy Mass to another National Park, then I went to the white mountains where I am camping via Boston. The roads in the White Mountains are super fun and the mountains are beautiful. Some locals told me some roads that I need to ride on my way to Acadian NP tomorrow so I am going to try and work out a route.

Day 17

Over the course of the night the storm became very bad. I normally love a good rain and thunderstorm while I am camping, however the one that I was in last night was pretty rough. I have never had lightning that woke me up and I was still seeing spots from the lightning with my eyes closed, and the thunder felt like it was coming from inside me. I felt like every hair was standing on end and that my chest was shaken. I finally got back to sleep but that shook me up a little.

Had to pack up in a little rain and my tarp was wet as well. No big deal it was not the first time. This is the reason that I love a hammock and tarp so much. There is no more getting wet when it rains. I did find out that my so-called waterproof Geza bike cover is only good for filtering the water before it gets to your bike. Let's hope that the bike cover filtered the water good enough to not get water spots. I am going to have to call them about this.


Today has been an interesting day, I started off by doing about 15 miles off road, some of it got pretty sketchy. I had a small creek crossing and my traction control tried to throw me over the front of the bike going up a steep slippery hill (I gotta learn how to turn off the traction control for off-roading this beast). After the dirt road I went to the Kancamagus highway and it was great! I had a peg scrape the ground. Super good curves and the pavement is stellar! Let's hope that there are lots more roads this quality or better on the ride. I am not sure what it was but this was such an enjoyable road to ride. I think I may like it better than the Cherohola.





LL bean was interesting to go to, big store but all it was was an REI but bigger. I did not end up buying anything, I just did not need anything. They do have a green wool jacket I would love to have though.


I went by shipyard I think by General Dynamics that they were building what looks to me like a destroyer into more commercial ships. Absolutely humongous place I read that it is the largest shipbuilding yard in America.


So on up the road a little bit this bridge that is humongous and pops up out of nowhere. Then out of nowhere there is a sign that says Fort Knox. I thought Fort Knox was in Kentucky. I was homeschooled, but I still thought that Fort Knox was in Kentucky. Turns out it's not the Fort Knox with the gold it's just Fort Knox, Maine. However, the bridge was incredible. I did not take any pictures because it was pouring down rain. The suspension was in the middle of the bridge and the road was on either side like wings. I've never seen a bridge like that in my life, absolutely incredible. Kudos to the engineers who designed it.


I finally took off my rain gear because it had not rained in a whileand I couldn't see any clouds coming in around the corner then BAM it was just pouring like crazy. By the time I can get pulled over I was already drenched, so I went to the gas station that was just up the road and got fuel. I also check the radar and it did not show more rain in the area. So I decided to go without rain gear just to try to dry off some. I drove off and about 30 miles up the road I can see rain so I just went ahead and put my rain gear back on. I did not come out of my rain gear until about 8 at night. I set up my camp and everything in it.


My shoulder is starting to give me a lot of trouble. This happened when I was out in Colorado as well. My retard knee is starting to hurt as well, I'll get over it though I would rather be in pain out riding then sitting at home.



Acadia NP from what I've seen is a beautiful place. After I set up camp I drove down along the shore just incredible how beautiful it is. The roads are nice and twisty as well. On my way back to my campsite I bought a bundle of wood. I hope it does not fall off the scooter.


I started seeing yellow stuff on my bike then it hit me. I am in the middle of pollen season here, I am glad that I brought my allergy meds.

Day 18

I packed up my camp first thing this morning due to the fact that I did not know if I was going to be going to Canada or saying in Acadia one more night. I was at the Rangers station when they opened and ended up getting a campsite four spots down from where I was last night. I moved my stuff and set up my camp and it looks like the Clampits came to town with all my clothes everywhere hanging to dry.


I went and explored the island and rode just over a hundred miles. Acadia National Park is so worth coming to. The views are incredible and the roads are also fun to ride as well. I stopped and explored some of the rocky cliff beaches, they are superb!


About a 3.5-4' section that I jumped with riding gear on, don't tell Hot Stuff!

My plans in the morning are to possibly go up the Cadillac Mountain to watch the sun come up about 4:45 in the morning. From there I want to head to Fundy National Park in Canada. The weather forecast says that there are some scattered showers, let’s hope I can avoid them this time.


I went up on top of Cadillac mountain to watch the sunset. The sunset was set to be epicly beautiful, then some clouds rolled in and killed it. I had a great time and the skies were still pretty.

Day 19

It was overcast and misting when I woke up so I did not go and watch the sunrise because of the cloud cover. So I packed up.

I pulled out of my campsite at 5:22 am. I started heading for Canada. Google maps did me a solid favor by sending me down some great back roads. It started raining on me about 3 miles out from my campsite. I put on my rain gear and did not take it off until I reached my campsite in Fundy NP. On the way to the border I swung into Moosehorne National wildlife Heritage area and watched an Eagle and a juvenile Eagle. It was a great way to leave America.




The border crossing was overly anticlimactic, I was pretty bummed that they did not stamp my passport. After the border crossing, I went to St. Andrews to get a map of Canada, exchanged money and got information. I am so glad that I stopped for the information, I found some cool places to go.


I then went to Lepreau falls that is not worth going out of your way to see. It has some cool bootlegging history though. I also met some people who live about 45 min from me, it was nice to hear people talk who do not have a weird accent.

Next, I went to the Reversing waterfalls, once again it was very underwhelming to me. I was there at the slack tide so it was doing nothing at all.


Next, it was off to Saint Martin's to see the Sea Caves. I was told that the tide differential was 52'!! It was crazy going into the caves, they were still dripping water from the top.


This is the ocean floor, it is crazy how big the tide change is.

Next up was Fundy NP. Canadian Parks are not like American NP’s, they are not focused on the nature part, but they have showers. As long as I have two trees for me to hang my hammock I am happy, not taking a bath in the ocean and hot water is a big bonus. Rode 432 miles today mostly back roads. I am so tired and ready to relax. I went to the community campfire and listened to people talk from all over.

Day 20

I left Fundy about 5am heading to PEI, however I wanted to see the Tidal Bore. So then I went to Moncton, on the Petticodiac River, however the locals call it the Chocolate river due to its color. Here is what Bay of Fundy Tourism says about the Tidal Bore “phenomenon known as the tidal bore; outflowing rivers flowing back upstream as the tide comes in. Folks who have never been to Fundy before tend to take our 15 m (50′) tide measurement and combine it with the bore concept — then end up thinking that we have a 50′ (think: tsunami!) bore twice a day, which we do not. The actual rapids of a tidal bore are between 3 and 4 m (10 to 12′) high, which is still pretty cool — and on really high tides, the tidal bore is like a tidal wave as high as 2-to-3 m (6-to-9′).”

I had to wait about an hour and a half, but it was worth the wait. I stopped these two ladies Debbie and Donna who had retired the year before and asked them where a good place to watch the bore was and they embarrassingly said that they have never watched it. They then told me that they had grown up there and they did know that people come from all over to see it and to surf it. They ended up staying with me to see it and we had a grand time.






From Moncton I went to Prince Edward Island (PEI). The ride there was mostly interstate and just getting the miles behind me. There is a cool 8 mile long bridge that you have to cross to get to PEI from New Brunswick. It does not cost to cross to PEI but it costs $19 to leave the island. They love toll roads up here.


After getting onto the island I wanted to see this red earth they have, once again I was disappointed. Their famous red dirt looks like a shade darker red clay that we have at home. The landscape looks like midlands of South Carolina or the rolling hills of Tennessee. Nothing here to see just ride around South Carolina to get the same effect, or that is what I thought until I reached the coast.

I made it to Cavendish National Park to camp for the night. I am about 70 yards off the beach. I am pretty excited to listen to the waves crashing all night. I set up camp and put clothes out to dry and then I was off to ride for a while.
