I'm looking for a simple pre-purchase checklist template for a fairly novice wrench turner to follow.

    Potential bike- 07 1200GSA with 75000 miles

I would be very greatful for any help

You could google ‘pre purchase checklist for 2007 BMW R1209GSA’ print that out and then mark the items off as you go through them so’s not to miss anything. You will find it’s much like any used vehicle check list...bearing in mind this has a drive shaft and a dry clutch. Also if the bike has service history this goes a long way in confirming possible issues. I would also want to know why it’s for sale....this can be very telling. It’s not a bad idea to have some contingency money left over post purchase....after all it is used and things can go wrong or wear out, or just need attention/service.

To make you feel better, those 1200's are just about as easy to work on and keep in line with the maintenance schedules than just about any bike I've ever owned. It's a great bike to learn how to adjust valves and get good feel for feeler gauges. Everything is easily accessible and other than a set of TORX bits... no real special tools required.

Changing all the fluids is child's play.
Checking and then adjusting the valves is one step above child's play.
Purchase a GS911 (to reset service intervals, reset stepper motors and TPS) and a decent set of vacuum gauges to sync/balance the throttle bodies after the valve adjustment.
Changing the Alternator belt takes nothing more than a piece of plastic (I use a piece of a milk jug) to help slide the belt off the pully and a short handled wrench.

On a scale of 1 to 10, that bike is just about a 2 or 3 (at most)... ABSOLUTELY no need to be scared off just because it's got "BMW" stamped on it.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate the encouraging responses.

I always feel dumb after an impulsive entry. Didn't even think to use the old google machine first.
