Where to Store Road Tools on Bike

I always want my tools on the bike even when I ride with panniers. Also, I hate to fill up limited luggage space. 'Tools' includes CruzTools RoadTech B1, Stop N Go Puncture Pilot and Mini Air Compressor, and a Leatherman multitool. It's taken me a while to come up with the on-bike tool storage 'system' but it works great for me. Let me know what you think or if you have suggestions.

This is my Solutions, works perfect with the touratech boxes and quick lock saddle bags. I machined M5 threads in the carriers.

Clever move to store the tire irons on the bash plate. Also, nice looking toolbox. A buddy of mine does the same thing with the tool tube on the top of the bash plate or crash bar behind the front wheel. The same move with the Moto Arbo aluminum tool tube would be ideal, I think. Nice setup! What do you think of the mini air compressor in the owner's manual cubby?

On my wife's F700GS, I consumed the space where amboss87 installed the tool box with a Camel tank (and no regrets - her bike now more or less matches my R1200GSA in range). I have a Touratech tool box on my GSA (in similar location) but am needing space for a few more tools, and am looking for space on the wife's F700GS. The skid plate mounted tube is looking to be best option. But I'd like something that locks. We will be traveling for over a year in Central and South America, and I'd like to be able to have at least a minimal deterrent against casual theft.

Don't forget the (limited) space under the seat and in the owner's manual cubby to store additional tools – see the video I posted at the top of the thread. They sell a version of the plastic tool tubes that have a lock. Essentially it's a loop riveted into the base and cap and you and can slip a small combo lock through both. The aluminum Moto Arbo tool tube is way better and stronger but doesn't have an obvious locking mechanism. That said you could surely do the exact same thing as they do with the plastic ones by riveting a couple of loops and using a combo lock.
BTW: reach out when you nearing Guatemala. My wife and I currently live at Lake Atitlan and it's a can't-miss!

I have a seahorse top box. it is only for tools and spares. I tend to carry a lot of tools. I don't like the idea of just carrying the bare minimum just for my bike. I have met plenty of guys on the side of the road that my tools saved their ass. simply because they didn't have what they needed. I carry a full metric socket set, wrench set, Allen set, torx and etorx. Plus pliers, tape etc. rather have it and not need it vs need it and not have it. to me the little bit of added weight is worth it.

She has an aftermarket seat (Corbin) so the tool-storage space in the seat itself is "gone" - but the space where you are storing the air compressor I could use - and thanks for the idea, I may use that for same purpose! I like your idea of riveting something to make the Moto Arbo tube to put a lock through - I've more or less narrowed my options down to a "tube" of some sort mounted to the skid plate.
Lastly - we may well look you up! For us this trip is about places and people, and I've been keeping a list of "invites" I've received from various forums. My wife in particular is looking forward to Guatamala.

Yeah, the idea of riveting something to the Moto Arbo tube got me thinking too. Might try it myself. Anyway, it's really great a much better looking than the plastic ones. Re: the trip, do reach out. The Guatemalan highlands are spectacular and Lake Atitlan is the best part.

RaidBox/ToolBox from R1200GS to F800GS;

I like the idea but does it set up for their specific pannier rack and you have to DIY for other racks?

Only problem for my needs (wife's F700GS) is that this utilizes space I've already taken up with a Camel Tank aux fuel tank (also a great product). But if that space is available, I suspect this is a great option. Unobtrusive and uses otherwise wasted space. Looks to have reasonable clearance with the rear tire, but that should be considered especially if you ride in the mud and push rear suspension to full travel.

The price just jumped about 20 euros while I was looking at this item. WTF?

I store my tools in the skid plate. Even lower cog.
Still kept the underseat tools.

I use a Rotopax 2 gallon storage pack mounted on an Altrider pillion rack on my 1200.

OP, love the idea of the irons on the bash plate. I've got an Acerbis plastic glide plate on my DR and this will be a great idea for getting some weight (axle wrenches and full sized irons) off of the tail!
