Not thrilled with my Givi. Lots of buffeting on side of helmet at highway speeds. I purchased some Adventure mounting hardware, so now I can go with any. I know about aeroflow (don't want that), z technik, etc. I was like the look of the ztechnik adv model but it's $$$. Someone mentioned Moose Racing and I see they have a stock height and 2" over model. Was thinking of checking out the 2" over. It's fairly inexpensive and thought I'd give it a shot. Am I thinking correctly the ADV windscreens, since they are wider, will reduce the side buffeting I'm getting? I'm 6'3" and don't want to look through the windshield, but I don't mind them coming up fairly far.
Wider is relative, and the 1150 ADV mounting brackets support greater width around the instrument cluster. At the top, there's not that much difference. The Moose Racing screens look like quality replacements, but they're practically identical to the OEM screens on the ADV. Still, a bit of extra height can't hurt. Ver. offered by Puig and Fume, or similar, offer greater width at the top of the screen.
I got the Moose one. When I got my 02, the P.O. had let it sit, outside, in the South, on the south side of his garage. The stocker was yellow and cracked. I was looking for “cheap” at the time. The Moose was the least expensive route. Got the tall one. Been real happy with it except when standing on the pegs going up a steep hill. Bonked my helmet off the windshield more than once. Other than that, does a great job of creating a wind “dead zone” right above the tank. Been pleased with it for 3.5 years now. Just one rider’s experience Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
i have an '05 GSA.这些挡风玻璃,几乎任何一个them... my feeling is that they are an "off and on" item. there are times when I think I like them... you choose, I've used a few... then there will come a time when one breaks... typically they break around/near the mount. and/or I simply get tired of the damn things. Its not all that bad to ride without one. At times I prefer no windscreen at all. without the windscreen, at least there is more air flow, which is great when the going is slow, and you find yourself working the bike a bunch, like when riding it off road. sometimes that screen gets in the way. I'm particularly cautious with it, any time I find myself standing and leaning forward. as to "buffeting", i don't feel much difference with or without the windscreen on. I think the buffeting thing has somewhat to do with the type of helmet. those moose racing screens are what i typically use bcz they are easy to order.
Well i'm a short-arse in comparison but 80% or so of my buffeting disappeared by fitting the tobinators which allows air-flow under the screen thereby helping to eliminate what I suspect are turbulent eddies around the top of the screen that puts your helmet right in this disturbed bubble. Still get some buffeting but no worse than no screen at all..
After much research I went with a Cal-Sci xl screen.I'm 6'3" also.Stock screen was horrendous, no screen with deflectors was better, but the Cal Sci is magic.I run it in the low position.
I have the largest calsci screen on the K1200GT. We have used it for about 28,000miles. Better than stock. Only in that it has a hole in it which allows some air thru Decent Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6'5 2004 GSA... Cal-Sci for me as well...luv it.I had to mod mine to GS mounts, so it will go on yours w/o a problem
I have a z-technick tall, i bought it here and its nice, i have it for sale but i might keep it for winter rides. I bought a amazon screen addition:https://www.amazon.com/Lisyline-Adj...-2-spons&keywords=motorcycle+windscreen&psc=1 I'll let you know how it goes. but i'm kind of excited about it.
I went the other direction... modified my stock 1150 screen to lay flatter, and also removed the lip. I'm 6'6", and prefer having my head/helmet in clean flowing air, much less buffeting.
I've gone the same route as Andrew. I used to have a cut down version of oem shield, just like Andrews above. That screen got yellowed and fugly, so I tossed it and put another oem shield on and left the lip. Works great for me and zero buffetting from the shield. I used to have a Givi, freakin hated it, air rolls around the sides and created buffeting. I ride with my FF shield open 98% of the time, and the buffetting would rattle the shield or slam it shut. I need to find another OEM shield in good or great condition as my current shield is starting to look like hell.
Some of my commute I can do flat out bits at 90mph here and there. The ZTechnik standard does a great job. It's a bit large visually. At speeds under 65mph I can ride around with my helmet faceshield up no problem. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam. For $200 it's actually very fairly priced the competition is more. I recommend it as a good value and great function.
Even slab riding at 60+ I prefer no windshield. I get it isn't for everyone, but it works for me. Off pavement it's unbeatable.
I bought a Puig for my 2018 GS from Revzilla for 140 and Im pleased with its performance. It does a good job creating a pocket of quiet air around my helmet. The downside is on really hot days it blocks to much air so I end up getting a little uncomfortable because of the heat. Overall a good product that looks good, performs well and was reasonably priced.
I'm only 5' 5.5'' on a good day and I had similar problem with my 2002 1150GS. I taped some card board on each side of the shield and that stopped the wind from swirling around the edges that was causing all sorts of problems. Eventually I got the GSA wind shield and the extra long/wide mounts. I don't have any real wind problems but that might be because of my height or lack of it.
Like Andrew, I cut off the top five or six inches of my stock windshield on my 2000 R1150GS and lowered it as much as possible with the adjustable settings. On my 2012 R1200GSA, I just lowered the stock windshield as far as possible without cutting anything off at all (including leaving the stock curved lip intact), and it is perfect. I'm 5-10 or so.j.
How did you like this clip on - screen addition. 任何人know if the moose 4+ tall for the r1200gs will fit a 1100GS?
