Our youngest son, Adam Mitchinson, is flying out to Sydney from the UK today to ride in the APC Rally, starting 10th March.
He will be riding with Aussie lady Amy Harburg on a pair of the new BMW G310GS bikes, supplied by BMW Australia. Both bikes are fully kitted with Rally Raid Products adventure kits, and these pre-production parts will be getting a full testing on the trails as part of the 3,000km route.
They were originally going to ride with David Darcy, of MAD-TV fame, but unfortunately Davo has picked up a nasty arm infection at the last minute and cannot ride, so it's just down to the 2 intrepid "baby" GS riders to put the new kits through their paces.
Adam, 25 yrs, will be riding in his first rally, and first trip outside Europe, but he has plenty of mountain bike, trials and Enduro experience, plus has been involved in the development of the G310GS kits as part of his job at Rally Raid.
It would be great if anyone ADV inmates riding in the event, or around Sydney, gives him a thumbs up, he has next week to finish building both bikes with Amy before setting off.

206 view not a single reply... Obviously not a popular game in Sydney..

Is this APC rally one of those pre organised tourist thinghy where they do everything for you and completely kill the adventure side of the trip?

    No not at all...
You get a GPS route map that gives you a great track to follow for a week to two weeks depending on the event. I've done a couple and enjoyed every kilometer. You get the map and assistance where required of you have issues along the course. The rest is up to you, including your choir of hard or easy tracks, food accom etc and how far you travel each day.
Just not mentioned around this site much after the organiser had a big falling out with this site.
It's a great concept for many... there are hundreds of riders have done APC events overt the last five years.
    I'm sure they'll enjoy themselves.

很多,没有人回复OP吗?的是sistance part is what I was referring to as to killing the adventure... If you already know that, no matter what, someone else will help you to overcome the obstacles, doesn't that defeat the purpose of taking an adventure in the first place? Where is the challenge in that?

For me at least there's nothing to comment on. It mostly belongs in the gs thread, it features riders who are unknown to pretty much everybody herein afaik but most of all there's simply no news in it.

Like wtf is a rally raid kit for a gs. Spoked wheels? Yippee but why bother, it's mostly cosmetic surely. Besides which with much more detail its close to vendor thread material.

And there is the Apc aspect. I'm sketchy on the detail but as I remember it the organiser told this place to go jump which is enough to encourage me to likewise endorse him and his ongoings with a "who cares"... Oh, did your son sign a form granting ownership of the route to said Apc? He must be of Royal descent our homer...

The APC rally is usually a challenging event route wise. Keeping up a fair pace despite set backs to finish in 14 days is a challenge of riding and navigation skill. Riders gave done it in all types of bikes over the past events.

I can see the challenge (time wise) but I was more interested in the adventure aspect of it... Maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong angle...

    EDIT...

Nope... I was right... I just went to their website and...

It is a pre organised tourist "adventure" with constant support...

    Everyone is different.
I reckon it would be good.
Sounds like no one from advrider is doing it.

Half, if not more if the fun is working out your own route and the adventure is finding out if it works.

我能理解时间粪便r dirt virgins might see $1'000 for a .gpx track as a good deal but I'd rather spend that money on fuel, food and adventure!

Ok I get it now... This thread should be in the vendor section from the beginning as it is just a way for ktmmitch to advertise is business Rally Raid Products... the APC rally was just the excuse to get in...

    Very clever indeed...:deal

However, if I'm mistakingJohn Mitchinson, I apologise...

No, it wasn't a way to advertise RRP, we already have a well watched section for all our bikes on Vendors.
It was an attempt to (hopefully) get Adam(as a young fella) on his first trip to Aus, and his first big ride, an opportunity to hook up with anyone that was doing the APC, or had done it, but never mind........

Gee, you blokes are a bit harsh. Even if it is a vendor-type thing, the OP and his family are obviously into riding. I understand the skepticism of an advertising avenue, but so what, if they do actually participate to sell their products? Better than a Chinese factory of poor underpaid workers isn't it?
And as for APC rally, there's a heap of people who still actually enjoy the adventure even if they don't plan the route themselves. Everyone's idea of adventure is different. We can't all be "Madison" these days. The roads are already all built - where's the adventure in going on any of them, some may ask.....

Reading this post it appears to me its more about product placement and promotion.

I think Vendors is the place for it.

Good luck to Adam - I hope he enjoys his time in Oz and everything goes well in the event.

Are there Dakar and Aust Safari competitors doing the APC rally?

I was only saying that I can understand those who are new to adventure riding could find the APC rally appealing.

Well I'm glad I apologised in advance then. I never heard of these rally, so I was intrigue by the fact that nobody had replied to your post...

Good luck to Adam and Amy then on their new experience...
