Yeah it's been done to death. Not interested in hearing, "just buy a laminated jacket". I've had more of those, of the top brands than I care to mention. Chances are good I've tried what you're recommending is all. At some point, you gotta be honest with yourself about how and when you ride.

So, I'm looking for a good outer jacket. It should breathe. A touch of venting. Small packing. Some reflective. Easy on/off. Zip off hood, or one that folds away.

My large klim stow away is almost perfect, but I'm tired of it being so snug and can't find an XL in the older style with the stowable hood. And, well, why do they do the cuffs so narrow? Perfect otherwise. Not a klim fanboy, btw so don't go there.

Just received a Revit nitric. Seems just about perfect, but the friggin sleeves are about 2" too short. Returned.

Olympia horizon maybe, but waterproof claims on their standard stuff is hit or miss...

Seems motoports aerotex jacket might be the ultimate if I can get them to do it without Velcro. That's my other request. No Velcro. The devil's fastener I tell ya!

I have an Alpinestars rain jacket and pants. Fits all your criteria except there is no hood. I carry them in a pouch on my bike most days.

我最喜欢的是Motoport夹克,定制my size, since 2012 (also the over pants). I do not think they used to call them that then, but looks pretty identical. After all this time, Alaska, Newfoundland, and many other trips were the real test where I never got wet and cold thanks to these two pieces of gear.

I used them as cold weather layer too, and they work very well. In our hot 90+ F, humid East Coast summer weather, I experience sweating but nowhere near as bad as with plastic rain gear. The velcro is needed to keep the water out of the zipper which is not waterproof, but it seems to be holding out great. In fact I think the design with that flap cover is smart by how it keeps water out.

When packed, the jacket and pants are not huge, yet take a little luggage space approx. the size of a 3 inch thick full size notebook. It's a quality material and workmanship that will last and not rip with the first strong wind or after all the many 'dancing' around on the road side trying to get them on and off. I usually take these, perforated riding gear, and layers, on long trips with large temperature variations, when Goretex gear is too hot.

I bought a Coleman waterproof wind breaker at Canadian Tire 11 years ago.
It’s been my fail-safe water proof over jacket since I started riding my V-Strom over 70,000 kilometres ago.
Fits well over my armoured adventure jacket, has a hide-away hood and Velcro wrist enclosures.
    所有for less than $50

You try a BMW rainlock jacket? Solid 2.5 Layer jacket, you just have to make sure the dealer didn't punch a security tag through the fabric. A little bit of velcro, but not too bad.

Are you talking about the liner, or the outer jacket?

How's theMarmot Precip jacket? I've been wearing the full zip pants for years. I've never gotten wet in them. Lightweight. Breathe well. I've never given much thought to that jacket only because of the hood. I suppose I should clarify that. I don't really want a hood, it's just that most jackets have them. If its on there, I'd like it to roll in, or be removable.

My Darien hasn't let me down until the lamination wore out, then the jacket was replaced.

I like that over a jacket worn over something else.
*Edit* I prefer rain jackets as the top layer of whatever I'm wearing

That said my Northface mountain light jacket has been great for 20 years, but its starting to delam as well. and the hood doesn't' come off, I wish it would as I hate hoods, and rare it is that I use them, hats work better for me.

I picked up a northface outlet jacket, it's coated but not with gore tex, it was only like $40 because it was sized wrong I think.
So far it's been a decent jacket and if it only lasts a couple of years it's not that great of a loss,

Another option if it's cold and when where you ride,
Fisherman's gear, like the kind used on off-shore commercial fishing ships.
But it's got to be cold and wet otherwise those suites are sweatboxes.

I had the jacket for a few years and climbed with it quite a bit. Eventually I wore it out (back pack straps, abrasion from rocks, etc.). It was a perfectly fine jacket and it was cheap.

After that I switched to an Arc'teryx Alpha SL. Partly because it was a really nice jacket, but mostly because I just seem to like spending money...

After I wore out the Arc'teryx, which took about 5yrs, I bought a generic REI labeled Gore-tex jacket. It was on sale for about $50 andverygreen. It turned out to be a pretty substantial jacket and feels like it will be pretty durable.

I suggest we get in a car and drive the 3-miles to REI, where I help you spend your money, then we go drink beer. Sound good?

I use my Northface hi-vent over my leather jacket. It packs in my tank bag and the hood rolls into the neck. The bonus is the hood is big enough to go over the helmet, so on rainy days commuting in the city, or bumper to bumper, or whenever I'm going slow and the rain likes to drip off the back of the helmet onto my neck, the hood keeps it off. When traffic starts flowing again the wind pushes it off my helmet without me hsving to touch it.

I found a good, small packing, rain jacket at Defender Marine. Just like moto gear, the high end yachting rain gear is expensive & bulky. Most of the big marine outfits will also have a line of lighter, cheaper gear for lighter, occasional usage. I bought one to keep on my sailboat for guests to use & liked it so well I bought another for the bike.

Prior to buying a KLIM Latitude I️ used REI with removable hood. Did not breathe but had vent along the back and pit vents. A bonus was it worked for hiking, walking around in the PNWet and motorcycling.

Just don't let me go near the Arc'teryx section. becoming a convert. I saw a jacket on Zappos half off and had to have it. It rocks. But, I'm not wearing that on my bike. It's for dressing up:lol3 :lol3 :lol3

    Beer? Yes! We're long overdue.

Also sick of Goretex gear made by a certain four letter word company that starts with K. Doesn't work, too hot when its hot and doesn't keep me dry when it rains. I've ridden Newfoundland, Alaska, Baja and down to Panama in the last 4 years. The latest set up is some good North Face jacket/pants. I have a Rev'it Sand 3 jacket/pants which I really like, put 15k on this summer, the North Face jacket/pants goes on over top when it rains, I wear it around camp, used it for hiking in Alaska this summer. The only downside is the hood when riding, sometimes it comes untucked and does a nice parachute, also the sleeves could be a little longer. My only issue with the pants is a strap on the bottom to go around the boot would be nice for those real nice 5hr rain days in Alaska, got some wet ankles once or twice. I was going to stop at my local Carhartt dealer to check the rain gear. Carhartt makes most of their jackets in a 'tall' version. Both of my Carhartt jackets are 'large/tall' due to my ape arms (about 2" longer than most people my size). So I think this might work + I can still wear them when we go hiking off the moto or around camp. My wife also likes that mosquitoes can't seem to penetrate the North Face or similar rain gear:lol3. People are going to argue all day that Goretex is better/don't have to stop to put gear on but I'm going to argue that they don't ride in enough different environmental extremes.

I almost ordered motoport aerotex rain over jacket. The 1/4 zip one. They said I could have stretch cuffs and remove the inner mesh liner as well. You can customize it in a million ways.

Chances are good I'll end up with one of their aerotex jacket. I asked if they'd do the 1/4 zip in a full zip and they said no. I like that it doesn't seem as clunky as the other. If they won't do it with snaps, that would be a bummer. I hate all that velcro
