So, I tried this in Road Warriors, it generated some discussion and finally fell off into the basement. I figure there are quite a few people on advrider who don't wander into road warriors and some may want to play.

Here we go:

1. Kawasaki W650, Modern classic: I think I gotta go with the Kwacker, despite currently owning a Bonneville because they just nailed the look better. Sorry Bonnie.

2. Honda CB500X, upgraded suspension, actually my next bike. Supermoto that can cruise the highway.

3. Vincent Black Shadow, uhhh, is any explanation needed.

4. Suzi TW200, off road funbike

5. KTM Freeride, adult off road funbike

6. Ducati Multistrada, two words... Pikes Peak

7. Big Bear Choppers Titanium, how the FXR would be built today if EB was still with the company and the bean counters left him alone. I'll take both fairings and removable bags please and thank you.

8. Beemer R60 with Steib Sidecar, to get my side hack side on (I've owned two)

What's so important about what we'd like to have (VS what you want yourself) as bikes that you have to ask it twice?

I don't want any old junk, I've had enough of shitty handling, unreliable bikes. I've been through 43 or so bikes. These would fill the the bill.

Honestly after the first two the rest probably wouldn't get ridden a lot and would be sold off. I've been toying with the idea of the Duramax toy hauler for a while. For where I'm at in life it would be about perfect.

1. 4th gen VFR frankenviffer - I had a stock VFR, loved the motor, pretty much hated the rest of the bike

3. 2nd gen EX500 to build into a fun corner carver

5. YZ490

6. DL650 or DL1000

7. GTS1000 just to look at

8. Bimota YB11

9. XT350 with modernized suspension for my fat ass

All 5 of the 450 MX offerings, so I could do my own shootout test.

YZ 250, just in case I'm disappointed with the above.

Call me a sacrilege but I don't see the need for 10 bikes... I know. Burn the Heretic.

I can logically see having three at max.

1. Daily bike / all rounder. Good for sport rides, two-up, bike night, touring, etc. Needs to be versatile enough to handle just about anything.

2. Track whore bike. Any beat supersport 600 that you don't care about thrashing and wrecking. Bonus points if it's plated and you bolt a fog light to the race fairing so you have a legal headlight.

3. Dual sport beater. Anything that can take a licking and keep on kicking. Cheap. Capable and disposable.

I don't know why anyone wouldNEEDten bikes. Seems like an exercise in wishful thinking and a good way to fall out of love with the bikes you do own.

I find it an interesting intellectual exercise, same reason I check what bike do you want today everyday. I'm not looking for answers, I enjoy the discussion that ensues. It's obviously not your thing, no worries, different strokes and all. Have a good one and ride safe

Erm, the first word in the thread title is "dream" so yes, it is supposed to be an exercise in wishful thinking.

Ironically, I totally agree about the "need" aspect and very much respect your restraint. I don't currently "need" more than one. I just enjoy seeing people's reasoning (or deducing it if they don't put it) as to what they would choose. It's completly an intellectual exercise that I separate from what I'd consider buying.
I had never thought about affecting someone's opinion about what they ride. Hopefully that's not an issue for fellow inmates. Thanks for your input.

I pretty much agree with you, but I would add one more category: (See#4) And while you're at it, toss in a trials bike for the backyard and a R60 BMW with sidecar in Dover white!

4. The pretty "eye candy" bike that makes you smile when you look at her in the garage; usually involves shiny metal or chrome and days where there is no chance of rain. It could be a Harley, an old Honda, Triumph, bevel drive Ducati, Indian, Vincent or 1973 CB750.Ihave a 2014 Honda CB1100 thatfills this category for me

I agree with this as well - I can probably only think of 3 or 4 categories of bike I'd actually want for functional purposes.

也就是说,填补我绝对没有问题the other 6 or 7 slots in the dream garage with bikes that just plain make me happy, regardless of if I'd ever really ride them, or even regardless of if they'd actually be any good at their own genre of riding. I think this is what you meant with your category 4. The "practical" categories would each probably only earn one spot in my garage (why would you need more than one of a given type? Just buy the best of that genre). But the "feel good" category would be limited only by the number of spots in the garage.

2004 KTM SXC (wicked fast with the pumper carb. Put a comfort seat, 18 inch rear wheel, a 18 liter tank and call it a day). Damn near killed myself on one of these in 2004. Not the bikes fault, but my hamfistedness (< is that a word? Is now.)

Husqvarna 990 Nuda (I'd actually buy one today, if they were here in the US)

2013 Yamaha Fazer 8 (Canadian and Euro released bike withe the 1/2 fairing on it.) I would make this make most ridden bike/ track bike/ commuter/ etc.
Rode one last year in Ontario, Canada. Not as powerful as the FZ1 I own, but lighter and not so overwhelming (power wise) in the twisties.
