I've just pulled the plugs on my bike after a long trip and my plugs look similar but probably worse than yours did at the start of the thread, my bike runs fine though:dunno. I like the idea of catching the spooge in the airbox and just cleaning it out every now and then. Please keep us posted with what you do:thumb.

    Cheers,

    Adrian

This pic? (rh) It's been worse than that, with build up on the strap as well.
What seemed to be an associated issue with the black plug was excessive carbon build up on the piston, and pinging under heavy load. I haven't looked in the rh plug hole with a camera for a while, but the pinging has basically gone. My bike went ok too with black plugs.

I'll be happy to collect 90% of the mist with a pad. Then I'll have a clue as to where my fuel mixture is really at, and what suits the new mufflers.

I cut a piece of rubber foam and wedged it in the Airbox just in front of the crankcase breather hose.
The oil vapors hit it with most of the oil dripping down the foam to the bottom of the Air box

Indeed you did, I remember it well. I've tried the two recommended heat ranges for my bike.
That's where it needs to condense, between the hose outlet and the floor, where there's a thirsty pad waiting to wick it all up.
I was worried about robbing the airbox of volume, but then I saw one of those shed systems installed in an air box and never worried about it again. I reckon about a 4mm thick pad would have a lot of capacity. Especially if I covered the bottom. Just need to retain it. I like my bike clean, ok.

A washable foam air filter element for a lawn mower might serve inside the airbox.

Jeff, what's not to like, the external canister is discrete and easy to clean out - between lengthy intervals to boot. That catches 100% of what ever by product is developed, no impact on your carb jetting and air flow, and more importantly - less likely to create a fatigue leakage point for dusting as the filter is being frequently disturbed to get to the messy little pad.

The only thing I don't like about the internal option is that it's......internal.:hide

Hi Adrian, I’ll put up a few shots from lap top in morning. I am challenged working these small I phone keys with fingers at least as large as Jeff’s yard sale bike loads.

Being the recalcitrant I am, I can use some of the oe plumbing to do this. The airbox tee piece rhs blocked off with the left side oe carb feed pipe angled to the filter box floor where it picks up the pad. Various options to retain the pad.
I consulted my RS last night about the external route. We both agree.
Those pads that come with fresh chicken fillets might work, pre chicken of course.

I was running my breather into the K&N, but now I'm not using it, run the hose across the airbox and out the parots beak hole.

Jeff, as long as your "RS" is comfortable with the absorbent pads:kat(sure happy spell correct didn't add an "A" in front of that:lol3)

    IMG_0516.JPG

Adrian, small canister (photo'd earlier in post) is fed via formed SS tube 3/4"OD that runs back from stock formed breather hose that normally orientates into stock air box. I get a moisture drip from it but I am injecting water/ meth also as a det reduction strategy. A clean interval of 1000km could easily be extended, which is a) rinse bowl, b) SS mesh screen, & c) reassemble.
My arrangement quite different back there above tranny, I could add a few more shots, but then am I risking overstaying my welcome on Jeff's soon to be cooking thread?
More likely arousing a purist hue and cry over rampant un-natural surgical enhancements:snore
